How can losing breed confidence?

Losing can breed confidence, but in this game, I don't see how it does. Dallas should be confident already that they can probably beat any team in the league. So losing this game wasn't a positive.

Losing can breed confidence when you're a team that isn't sure about itself and you lose a game against a perceived much better team and a bad break or one bad play cost you the game. From there, you've got to believe that you can play with better competition and you know how to beat better competition.

You hit it on the head right there. Dallas didn't really know what it was until this game. Who didn't perceive Denver as the better team besides Dallas fans? Most people had Denver blowing us out. We caught a few bad breaks and one or two bad plays (pick Cundiff's FG or Dayne's run) did cost us the game. Dallas proved alot in that game, especially with no Henry and a 3rd string LB starting.

Dallas still controls its destiny especially after they beat the Gints next week, its hard not to be optimistic.

The Cowboys have lost 4 games by a combined 13 points. All 4 games were winnable and that breeds confidence, because teams are not blowing us out.

In case you haven't noticed, it's getting harder and harder for teams to beat the Cowboys and that breeds confidence too. Only veteran teams, with Pro Bowl players and SB winning coaches like Holmgren and Shanahan can find ways to beat us...just barely!

I think Dallas is a team in transition and is only getting better with each game. It may not look that way sometimes, but the experience those young players are getting is unmeasurable. It took a Herculean effort to beat us this time around. I think Dallas is starting to gel as a team, like the Pats did a few years ago.

As a matter of fact...

Denver might be the last team to beat Dallas this year.

Mistake?

I gave my reasons for fans to be confident in the team.

...Cundiff kicks round house and he tends to have inconsistent contact. ie. hooks in his ball.

Right now the best kicker in the game this season is Rackers and his big secret is he's hitting the ball squarely and his kicks look laser straight.

All kickers have similar problems as Cundiff until they get a good feel for hitting the ball squarely.

Next FG he misses will be a 43 yarder from the right hash mark. He'll be thinking of his miss and try to compensate and push one wide right.

I wouldnt say that losing breeds confidence, but it definitely can help to assess where a team is.

Look at the Panthers/Bears game for example. The Bears had received very little respect until they beat the Panthers. The Panthers were considered a SB possibility. Winning the game the Bears are now the surprise team (after 5 in a row it should be surprising, now 6) , The Panthers who have ZERO running game and one passing option are now being somewhat questioned as even a good team.

Or the Chargers/Giants game, where the Chargers are facing the #1 offense in the NFL. The Chargers win convincingly and remain one of the top teams in the NFL.

The Cowboys werent expected to win this game by most people. However I dont think many people expected a blowout (I could be wrong).

I am amazed at how many posts from fans on various boards are predicting that we win out or at least win the east and get a home playoff game and this newfound confidence was instilled by a LOSS.

Grant it, Denver is a legitimate contender and we played them toe to toe, but if anything this loss has drained my confidence in this team to win big games.

Listen, Yesterday was a perfect time to make a statement to the rest of the NFL. we had a good team, in our house, on national t.v. , we could have turned up the heat on the Skins and Giants in one fell swoope, but the only thing we did was show that we are a good team that struggles to close in big games.

Let the flames begin. :nolook:

You should not forget where you come from - maybe that's the answer for your question.

Look we were a 6-10 team coming into this season. We had a major overhaul of the defense. Two additions to our offense. All in all we had some good players coming to our team but what we didn't know what kind of team we were. And if you don't know who you are then the confidence is missing also.

I think over the last couple of games it showed that we are a good team. But with Denver coming to town there was not only a good team coming - they are a team that can make a legit run to the big game. So this was another test for our team and boy did we respone.

We didn't only walk toe-to-toe with them. IMO we controlled the whole game. There were a few mistakes and a few bad calls on either side of the ball. WIthout them we would have owned a Denver team. With Denver struggling on road games nothing else should have been expected if we were a legit contender before the game.

With the way we played against Denver we now have the right to call ourselfs a legit contender at least for the NFC Championship. Boy if you look at where we came from that should sky rocket our confidence!

Good teams and players learn from their mistakes and loses......This is a good team no doubt about it.

...and now they know for certain that they can compete (and beat) the leagues elite.

No losses are good losses but many are as good a learning experience than any big win.

I see our team giving up a TD on a T.O. making a few mistakes here and there, playing with an O-Line where the two most important positions are still learning.

We hung tough and took a good team to OT.

I see it as a team that just needs more time or a player or two away from being something special.

I never thought going into this season we would be superbowl bound...sometimes people get expectations higher then what reality would dictate.

Sometimes we have players that we thing are better then they really are (in the past think of Reshard Lee as an example).

But we are fighting in every game...we are not getting blown out.

As I said earlier we just seem to be a little bit away from something special.

This is much different from the campo days...or heck even last year.

I just did not have the feeling during those years that something special was on the horizon.

I get that feeling with this team now...the pieces are falling into place IMO.

Now thats the confidence I'm talking about. The loss to Denver did not do that to me. If anything it fueled my fears that we are not quite ready for the big pressure games, hence I feel we will lose again this year more than once.

I pray I am wrong.
