i know sometimes it is bad coverage but i was watching the steelers and jets game last week and i saw Troy P. the steelers safety look lost covering people out their. The jets Tight End even gave him troubles. The announcers or nobody says nothing about that.

Short answer:
ALL safeties blow coverage, all safeties look lost sometimes. Some credit has to be given to QB, Receiver and OC... but that is not the partyline.

Because all other DBs around the league are not watched on a regular basis so the complainers have no basis of comparison upon which to make a logical conclusion.

Because it's Roy plain and simple.

Every safety in the league gets smoked by tight ends on a weekly basis. Somebody called out Roy a couple of times and now everyone chomps at the bit to blame him for every catch that takes place in his zip code.

Same thing with TO and his drops last year. Passes behind him, passes into the turf, passes tipped by defenders were all "drops".

Wow, Roy's dad has joined the board. Roy is not very good in coverage, period. That's not to say he doesn't have good coverage at times. It says that on average, Roy's tendencies cause him to get beat by big, strong tight ends. Can other SS's do better? Apparently, or we couldn't be having this discussion.

9-1. What's the record of the teams with these 'other SS' that are doing such a better job?

Once you name them, we can compare their numbers to Roy's and see just how better they are.

Because this discussion has never taken place before.

Because teams purposely design their offense to attack the weakest spot on our team, Roy Williams in coverage. Do you think they get that idea from listening to television announcers? No, they get it by watching the film of other teams attacking him, and being successful.

Ummm....Reeves anyone?

Beuller? Beuller?

No, I'm affraid it's more due to his paycheck, his profile, his visibility, misinformation, and people's inability to effectively compare other player's performances at that position. It's not his strength, but Williams isn't as bad at coverage as many other strong safeties in the NFL.

come on Hos, our "experts" in here say clearly 99% of all plays we allow are because of Roy Williams...dont go trying to distort their b/s theory with facts or anything

how many of those 50-something passes were purposely designed with Roy Williams in mind last week?

Thank you, now move along

Perfect pass to Santana Moss who makes a spectacular one handed grab over Jacque Reeves in his hip pocket with outstretched arms.

Roy Williams was within a fifteen yard vicinity during the play.

Troy Aikman: "The offensive coordinator was clearly trying to take advantage of Roy Williams on that play"

Joe Buck: "You know, this galloping gobbler is really shiny and smooth this year."

I find it amusing to read some of the comments from folks who've either never played this game or the position(s) in question, and assume they know the player's key reads/assignments.

Some should do a SS Rating system or something... EVERY GAME, every play given up when the SS was within 20 yards :laugh2: I would bet that Roy at worst would fall somewhere in the middle
