How did Collins Play Yesterday?

Collins has never been a beacon of fitness, let's just be honest, he's a big guy. When big guys are forced to sit out for 5+ weeks they aren't keeping in shape. So it shouldn't be a surprise when he returned from suspension out of shape. It showed in his performance.

The two "weak links" played the best yesterday.
Hmmm. Tha
Well we've been premature on a lot this season. I know Denver knocked me down a peg or two. As a fan I felt like we were pretty invincible after beating Minny with Rush. That said it's way too early to peak. A bump in the road will serve as a reminder they need their a game every week. I still have enough faith to expect 12-13 wins.
I agree. I just want to win as many as possible for seeding. Wanted that #1 seed. It’s still possible but that one loss even being a AFC team. Totally terrible outing..

Same, but I don't know if that's in the cards. I'm not jumping off the ledge or declaring how terrible we are, or any of the bs our resident trolls vomit up. At the same time I had a feeling of invincibility that won't likely return. We had overcome a lot prior to Denver, but the team showed me they are still capable of coming out and laying a goose egg. I didn't expect that out of these players or staff.

I don’t believe Denver found the recipe or they schemed us out of the game or that it's a case of styles making the fight. I think we were just flat and arrogant. Hopefully this is a one game lesson and it's the last we see of it. Nonetheless it demonstrated any given Sunday you can lose to an inferior opponent. It served to remind me we are still in a very uphill battle with teams like Tampa, Arizona, LA, and GB in the conference. You come out flat on any of them and you are likely to take a beating.

We can land anywhere between 1-5, with 2 or 3 being the most likely outcome. As always it will be a war of attrition.

He was on oxygen between possessions and we only had like 15 minutes of offense total throughout the game. That should tell you everything.

  • Comparing Steele and La'el at RT:
    • Steele: Better angles/execution on run blocks.
    • La'el: More power but often blocks the wrong player on run plays or blocks from the wrong angle.
    • La'el is not a smart player. All other players were 'smarter' (including Tyron) when Frederick was the OC.
    • Pass Blocking: Not a big difference.
  • LT:
    • Neither should play LT.
    • Steele played RT in college.
    • Steele struggled at LT in the preseason.
    • La'el played LT in college but was never projected to play LT in the NFL.
    • La'el would need to lose weight if they were going to try him at LT.
Steele played LT as a freshman and Senior. He played RT his sophomore and junior seasons. Collins only played LT his senior year and Junior year but played at LG as freshman and Sophmore. So your most experience LT is Collins. Collins even started on the left side of the Cowboys OL at LG. Flip them (Steele at RT and Collins at LT) and move on.

However, your most experienced LT is Connor Williams who stated all 3 years at LT for Texas. I would have kept Steele at RT, played Collins at LG, and Williams at LT. That would solve his power problem as he would not be taking on +325 pound DTs. Williams is very athletic but has been bulked up to play LG. However, he could be a capable LT in the NFL, not on par with Tyron Smith, but better than the rest of the Cowboys OL at LT (excluding Smith).

- Conner at OT would have been an interesting option, but thats' something that should've been worked out during an offseason, instead of Joe Philibin wanting to try him out as an option at Center.
But maybe Philibin is one that doesn't believe in short arm OL guys at the outside at OT.

- That's reportedly why the Cowboys envisioned Collins at LG, when he signed on as an undrafted rookie FA. The arm wingspan wasn't idea suited in their eyes.
But when the Doug Free retirement took them by surprised, and Chaz Green proved a bust, they were forced to push Lael at RT, where he's a staple there.

- For his athleticism and feel for the position, and success at the collegiate level i would've at least liked to have seen Williams flex at OT, and get reps at OT
to see how he would've worked there, instead of center in these past camps. and preseason games.. but that's not at all gonna happen.

Lael seemed ok until the 4th quarter, that's when that conditioning elephant began to ride his back.

Continue to play him as he gets re-adjusted to play mode. He'll be Ok. :)

Yes sir. All this starting to appreciate MM maybe was premature. Needed to be giving a halftime attitude adjustment. But they came out the same. This week will be a good way to gauge his abilities.

I actually think they came out much better after halftime. From memory, they held them to 3 and out and then blocked the punt. I really think the loss of the blocked punt took the wind out of their sails. It should not have, but it definitely dropped them back.

I know it took the wind out of my sails. I saw it and knew the rule. The guy tried to grab and run and should have just shielded it and dropped on it. I did think they needed to be past the first down marker. But no the stupid rule is if they even touch it. Lol. Thought it was supposed to be recovered and fumbled.

What I saw Sunday was lazy play. After the opening return and a couple good runs they thought they could turn it in when they want…
