How do you feel about HGH/PEDs?

A few years ago, most UFC fights ended in violent knock outs.

Pride FC in Japan had no testing. Crocop, Fedor, Wand, Rampage, Shogun, etc....those guys were animals and their fights were legendary.

UFC now tests, and tests a lot. The result: 95% of UFC fights now end in a 3 or 5 round snooze-fest decision. Plus, fighters are now always getting injured during training and pulling out of fights since they have to train harder when clean.

Regarding the guys I pointed out above? They came to the UFC and were shells of their former selves.

The sport is now boring.

I think there should be different classifications in fighting, one that does test and one that caters to the audience that likes to see their animals in The Coliseum as large and menacing as humanly possible.

Weird about the injuries though, usually roidz will cause a lot more injuries because your ligaments/tendons/supporting structures can't keep up with the increase in muscle and weight being put on the frame. Don't know how many broski's I know that have suffered pretty serious injuries on cycle because their body wasn't conditioned to the weight they were pushing. It happens a lot. A lot of these guys getting injured in college is a direct result of PED's, in my opinion. It's just basic physiology really.

Although they do aid in recovery.. I guess it depends on the compounds you're running and as long as you're keeping the reps in a normal range (6-10) and not 1RM constantly, you'll probably be okay. A lot of college programs do heavy strength training though which can really do some damage if you're on something.

The difference is that fighters try to maintain their weight, but increase their strength. Perhaps that is the reason for the lack of ligament damage while on roids. Just a guess though.
 
How does a smaller guy find a way to compete, when he has a genetic disadvantage, but he suddenly cannot compete when the other guy is taking steroids? I don't really buy the argument that everyone will have to juice to remain competitive. Barry Bonds was a hall of fame player before he juiced.

I agree. Realistically the majority of pro athletes could get and use some sort of PED if they wanted. Many do and many don't. I don't thinking making them legal and allowable by league rules would drastically change that much. There will still be guys who are fine getting along without them.
 
There has to be regulation. You don't want the game to evolve where running backs are 6'4" 450lb guys running 4.4 40's and benching 600 pounds. Lineman 550lb guys, etc. The game is already damn near on the brink with players possessing extreme strength & body weight.

That's actually pretty much the same really. It's all about the increasing weight really quickly (strength) without building up your ligaments which leads to injury. My guess would be the dudes are probably reasonably smart when it comes to the stuff they're using, and there's stuff out there that helps build ligament strength. But you're right, Pride really didn't have that many training injuries, they probably had private consultants with the company telling guys what to take :laugh:Not really serious, well kinda... maybe
 
As long as they know the risks, go nuts. Personally though i dont even like taking tylenol.
 
Against the rules, so it's cheating. Case closed. Bob Lilly and Roger Staubach didn't use it.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen Rampage pull off a power bomb in quite a while. Overeem seems to have been impacted by lack of juice as well. :)

Anyway, I took Prednisone a couple of years ago, and I had trouble doing everything. It made me sick every time I took a pill, I had trouble concentrating at work, trouble driving, and was hungry like the wolf all the time. I couldn't hardly sleep at all, but was never really tired. I hated every second of it and will never, ever take it again. That is the same drug Jerry Lewis somehow got hooked on and took so much of his head doubled in size.
 
I'll be honest, I know if I was in the same position as a professional player, I'd most definitely take some type of performance enhancing drugs. The reason being, there's so much at stake for you to get beat out by some other guy who's juicing, when you're busting your tail every day and you're doing it clean. I think this is the reason a lot of players juice, to stay even on the playing field because if you're clean then you're already a step behind most athletes.




A little off topic here, but that's pretty cool man. If you don't mind, who does he play for and what position is he? Hopefully one day he can help out the 'Boys on the big stage, I'm sure that'd be an ultimate dream for a parent to see that.

He plays baseball at Kansas. He felt he Was a little to small to play football. He got some D2 football offers, but decided he was tired of hurting all the time LOL

Go on youtube and search The Smashing Machine, Mark Kerr. He was on roids, but was also addicted to painkillers....hence not getting "injured". Crazy stuff. Awesome documentary.
 
With a mix of pain-killers, steroids and other PEDs, I'm surprised everybody focuses on 'concussions' as the reason for suicides, without ever discussing this issue. Nobody knows the impact of it, but another WWE star just committed suicide.
 
No, AS should not be used in sports, period. Sure one cycle wont kill you, but its a slippery slope and some compounds can turn you into an emotional and aggressive disaster. Dont get me started on PCT, some guys will start crying during The Notebook during this period.

That being said, theyre everywhere. Every college, junior college is rampant with roids. Hell, if you have a kid whos in high school chances are hes exposed to them.

Im a little more lenient on HGH during rehabilitation for its collagen production properties but i dont know much about it. HGH isnt really going to get you huge.

I was reading a little on HGH regarding collagen-production properties, especially as it relates to ligaments. Steroids and other PEDs don't do anything for ligaments. The issue of HGH and collagen led me into thinking about vitamin C, because it promotes collagen synthesis. It's been studied as well.
 
Meh. The Steroids from the 70s and 80s were an extreme competitive advantage. I don't think HGH helps that much. I think it helps recovery time more than anything, HGH is not going to take a guys that benchs 200 to benching 300 in a short amount of time which did happen with steroids.

I think controlled use of HGH and maybe low level of Steroids could be helpful to society. They should be studied more in reasonable dosages.

The usage of Roids back before they were banned was usually extreme dosages. You would have problems is you had 100 cups of coffee per day instead of 1 or 2.

The theory is that making them illegal is protecting people, but the body builders and people that use Roids are in high danger because they use unregulated products that have unknown ingredients.

The NFL testing for weed and other non PEDs is a waste of time.

HGH increases sprint times 4%, which is significant in competitive athletes. There are issues like EPO, which anybody familiar with Lance Armstrong know how significant it can impact performance, some studies indicating a 44% increase in stamina. Drugs are taken for reaction time and motivation as well. The reality though is humans throughout time have looked to PEDs for certain feats. Traditional societies would take certain chemicals before war or to gain supposed longevity and so on.

It's a difficult thing to balance, but often times, athleticism becomes about who has the best 'science' behind them. Imagine when wealthy kids are competing against poorer kids on the high-school level. The former would have a better chance at drugs that would give them a significant competitive advantage,

I personally don't care. If they want to jack up their bodies to be more competitive, then let them. Just makes the game more entertaining for me.

I'm sure that a large percentage of them use this stuff anyways.

My thoughts are more bio-science-future-based.

We produce hgh then we don't. So why not improve EVERYTHING about our being / existence / longevity.... Quality of life?

In essence, it's in our future. To augment, supplement... Get better etc
