How do you feel about potentially having a Rookie Safety

start for us this coming season?

IF we assume for a minute that R Williams is gone, and I think that most of us would agree that even if we re-sign K Davis he's probably not ideal . . . .

We could always either (1) move Hamlin to SS and look for a FS in the Draft; (2) If it's easier to find a SS in the Draft, then we keep Hamlin at FS.

I don't see JJ spending big bucks in FA for another Safety. And I don't think we really have the talent on the roster to replace R Williams.

I'd guess the most likely scenario is to draft a Safety, either SS or FS, and hope he pans out.

S seems to be one of the easier positions to work in a rookie.

Gotta be an SS though.

I also think that Davis can give us some good play at SS on run downs.

Not sure that Roy will be gone, but I have no problems with a rookie manning the position.

I'd think a decent SS could be had later in the Draft as well. By that I mean between rounds 2 - 4.

Every other team in the league start rookies except us........

I would have no problems starting a rookie. Imagine if we had used Choice and Felix more in the early season? But they were rookies and were not suppose to trust them.

I want Delmas or Sean Smith. I could live with Patrick Chung and Rashad Johnson as well. All 4 of those players offer an upgrade in athleticism and speed compared to our safeties.

Great question Woods. I would love to feel the pulse of the zone on this matter. I recall not too long ago the majority didn't want a rookie back there because the secondary needed a "QB" or leader in that position. Most felt more comfortable with a vet than a rookie.

Look at it like this. Could a rookie do any worse than the veterans we currently have?

The same way I felt about Pat Watkins in 06'' .. scared.

Unless you are throwing out a Taylor Mays, Kenny Phillips, Laron Landry or Sean Taylor type... u dont

There is more to playing running back than just running the ball.

Rookies usually are not very good at identifying the correct blitzer to pick up, and can get QB's killed. MBIII is a phenomenal blocker for a RB.

That is the main reason why they did not see more playing time early.

If Rashad Johnson is there when we pick, I would love to bring him aboard and work him in.

Not saying he needs to start, but he is an upgrade in coverage from Hamlin/Williams and has some ability to make a few plays back there.

I like Rashad Johson but drafting him would require moving Hamlin to SS and we know how great of a tackler he is  . I would rather release Henry, keep Hamlin at FS and draft a sure tackler with good coverage skills like Delmas.

I'm not sold on Delmas yet..I'll wait till the combine to make my sure judgment though.

Sean Smith
Rashad Johnson

Smith will be gone, but I really like Rashad..smart..athletic..good work ethic and preparation. He can play the SS position where he tackles really well and can be a ball hawk.

Rashad Johnson is only around 185 at 6'0, with Delmas around 200 lb. at 5'11. Rashad Johnson is a natural FS.

Fine if it that rookie Safety is Sean Smith. Apprehensive about most of the other candidates.

Virtually anything would be an upgrade over the strong safeties we have had the past two seasons.

Scandrick (and to a lesser degree Jenkins) benefited. I hope that trend continues. Scandrick is going to be a beast if he keeps working hard. He has the natural beastly traits.

Please Jerry..Please:pray:

Is this even possible? I don't want to get my hopes up over something that's really a pipe dream.

It sure would be nice...
