That's a darn shame. Some people are very foot dominant and can't just flip across the other way. I think Jacob Rogers had a hard time playing RT compared to LT.

Well, if Davis can't play RT then we are probably better off as we are because I think Free will be a better LT than Davis is at this stage of his career.

I just get frustrated with his pad level in the goal-line situations. He is a tall, big man and I think opposing tackles are diving underneath him and creating a huge pile right at the LOS. That is the downside of being tall.

A solution may be to move him more to a tackle type position in those situations where the opposing player is less able to sell themselves out in the same manner.

I don't think Davis is a bad guard at all.. I just think he is a bit too much feast or famine as a pass protector at that position. Perhaps Houck can continue to improve these two aspects of his game because on the other plays he is lights out. I guess you have to take some of the good with some of the bad.

Kosier is much more consistent in his play. He knows his assignments and will only rarely whiff on a protection. He is excellent in space just like a guard should be. Conversely, he isn't the best drive blocker.

I do think Free and Kosier will make for a very athletic left side of the OL next year and I am eager to see what they can do.

Too bad my dreams of Davis at RT and some roadgrader 6'3 330 pound RG (think a young Larry Allen) will never materialize. It would have been awesome.

Anyhow, I can live with this for next year:

Free Kosier Gurode Bigg Colombo

Hopefully Brewster can take Colombo's spot in a year or two as I would like a better athlete at that spot.

Sounds like you are describing Mike Iupati (6'5 330). As for Davis being foot dominant, not sure about that, but he obviously has a position preference. Davis IMO, can be as dominant as he wants. The problem is how badly does he want it. If he could couple his size & athleticism w/Columbo's fire he would be HOF level, literally devouring defensive players.

If Davis put his mind to it, I am sure he could be a good RT, but the same can be said for Flo (who almost always plays RT in the pro bowl)_who could be a GREAT right tackle.

And Brewer may end up at OG eventually, but all his pro reps have been at RT. Brewer may not have great size or athleticism, but he is very smart & aware (head's alwasy on a swivel) plus plays w/consistent tenacity (plays to the whistle & wants to bury defenders)_not to mention is also a great character guy.

Brewster may not have great athleticism (I honestly don't know) but he does have very good size. The guy is listed at 6'4" and 325 lbs: that's heavier than Colombo, Kosier, and Gurode and hes just as tall as Gurode.

He's heavier than Columbo but 4 inches shorter (Brewster is almost exactly the same height and weight as Gurode, a center). Brewster is average to below average in height for a pro tackle, but he does have long arms. And he also has bowed legs so he is kind of slow coming out of his stance and has to take an extra long stride with speed pass rushers which messes w/his balance.

I've never seen Brewster play but he sounds alot like Tuinei but he played LT for us.

I think people get too enamoured by size in terms of height for an OT. The advantage is the long arms but the disadvantage is getting leverage in the running game. Plus, if a defender gets on your body and under your pad you are very easy to bullrush right back into the QB.. 6'4" is plenty tall for a RT. I think it is even fine for an LT so long as the arms are long.

Too much emphasis is placed on size over technique and pad level when it comes to an OL. Some tall guys can bend their knees well and play low when they need to and others can't.

Bigg is a "Break glass in case of emergency" tackle. He will stay at guard. Brewster will have to show ability to move and keep his balance to play tackle. His size as regards height is not important due to his long arms.
Free will need to refine his technique and improve his leverage to play LT.
We need to draft another tackle high- you can NEVER have enough good young tackles.
