How do you prevent package theft at your house?

Just got a package stolen from me for the first time yesterday. Only have indoor security cameras right now, but have since moved one so it is looking out the front door.

UPS dropped package off at 10:30am, I got home at about 5pm. Package gone. The only way a person can see a package by our front door is if a person walked up to our door or saw UPS drop it off, obviously.

When I got home, I noticed there was a business card in the door from a landscaping crew so I definitely think it was them. I've lived here for 6 months in the house, have probably had over 100 packages delivered with no issues. A police department is literally across the street as well.

We have an RV gate area on the right side of our house I could somehow use for deliveries as well. Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately, people follow those trucks for that very reason. Have had a few packages stolen too, so feel your pain there definitely. I hate that those services don't require sigs anymore (UPS/Fed EX); sending the package to the post office if no sig available would nip this problem in the bud but there is probably some animosity there?

I can see how some people wouldn't want that as well. From a convenience POV. I used to have my packages held at a UPS store and I'd go in and grab them but damn that got annoying for how much online shopping i do...

Other than getting a Ucella specifically for packages outside of USPS, UPS does offer that choice of delivery but it is $40 a year.

Be careful not to accuse the wrong person. It could easily be a coincidence. My suggestion is to have packages delivered to an address where someone will be available to immediately secure it. For example I'm fortunate to have my retired folks accept valuable packages for me at their house. On the weekend I can run over and get them and free cookies. :D

I agree and have resorted to sending them to suburban Virginia instead of DC after being burned a few times.

Half the time those delivery companies don't even knock or ring the doorbell anymore. They just leave the package and run. That's part of the problem.

get a ring doorbell or a nest outdoor cam...they have motion alerts, record video AND have 2 way communication.

Nothing like telling the perp "Hey, I see youve got my package there"

You think the landscaper stole your package and then had the balls to leave their business card?

Living in NY, getting some packages stolen is just part of the deal unless you live in a building with a doorman. I get 98% of my packages delivered to my job.

Nest cam is good, but honestly, unless you know the thief or he happens to be a neighbor, the police aren't going to do a damn thing about it.

Well, l have four nasty Pitbulls and a .357 Magnum. Don't that many unknown visitors...heck, don't have that many known ones either...lol. Sorry about your troubles though. Dogs work..so do fake security camaras.

Motion tracker camera that alerts you instantly and has an offensive feature keyed to your vocal response. If you give the word, the person who triggered the camera gets tased as the cops are called.
