Did you know that Stenerud only made 66.8% of his field goals?I am not expecting Jan Stenerud out there.

They don't and that's the problem here memories are very very short of actual context because there wasn't social media and analytics and too many sports programs about footballDid you know that Stenerud only made 66.8% of his field goals?
The only way he gets asked to kick a 60 yarder is if it's the last play of the game to win. Do I feel confident he can make it? No. But then again I would say that with any kicker in the league. 60 yarder? There is a reason those are very very rarely attempted. They can't be made consistently. Even if it's Tucker.Nice way to throw a backspin on what I said, but no, not really. Do you feel confident about some kicker from the USFL coming in and making a 60 yard FG with the game on the line? I'm sure you'll tell me yes just to prove a point, but we all know deep down you won't be.
I was probably overzealous in my 60 yard sample, but either way, we will agree to disagree at this point. As I mentioned, we will see how it unfolds. The only way he gets asked to kick a 60 yarder is if it's the last play of the game to win. Do I feel confident he can make it? No. But then again I would say that with any kicker in the league. 60 yarder? There is a reason those are very very rarely attempted. They can't be made consistently. Even if it's Tucker.
So I'm not saying yes to prove a point. You are totally wrong.
Just give me sub 40 yarders and xps where I'm not holding my breath like it's the superbowl and I'll be happy
On the other hand - we don't want to see A LOT of <40 yard FG/ attempts. That should be the case. He's built a solid albeit short resume on making kicks inside the 40 and extra points. It's when he gets into the longer distances that it appears he's hit and miss.
Well, what you are going to see is touchbacks and straight accurate kicks.Have no idea what he can do. We'll know pretty fast though.
I hope so.Well, what you are going to see is touchbacks and straight accurate kicks.
100% touchbacks and 100% successful field goal kicks?Well, what you are going to see is touchbacks and straight accurate kicks.
Well, I'd prefer that he only have to kick extra points. On the other hand - we don't want to see A LOT of <40 yard FG/ attempts.
That would mean the Cowboys offense is stalling out A LOT inside their opponents' 25 yard line - as opposed to scoring touchdowns.
Something like that for the 1st game. The weather may be a factor.100% touchbacks and 100% successful field goal kicks?
For the first game, huh? Okay. Good stuff.Something like that for the 1st game. The weather may be a factor.
He certainly is kicking well now and won the job. All we can do now is play. For the first game, huh? Okay. Good stuff.
It definitely has changed things up for kickers. You used to hardly ever see them miss extra points. Last year, there were 64. Now, that's still a 94.6% success rate, but pales in comparison to before they moved the distance back. The record for missed extra points was set in 2006 at 6. The worst percentage since the NFL moved them back 13 yards is 92.4 in 2021. The year before they made the change, it was 99.3 (2014).I wonder how many of the posters don't know that NFL extra points are 33 yards?
I believe everyone, at least all Cowboys fans, hope he does well. However, I think almost everyone is concerned how well he performs in every game he kicks in, not just the first game. That is what worries most everyone else.He certainly is kicking well now and won the job. All we can do now is play.
Hopefully between Hankins and Mazi we'll surprise 'em this year with an intimidating DL that hates the run! It’s just frustrating they refuse to take the position seriously.
Reminds me of how they use to handle the safety position in years past, or recently DT until they were forced to address it via trade for Hankins.
