First of all let's be clear, it is just 3 weeks. It is highly unlikely this will continue at this pace and it would be a Ruthian jump to actually improve.

Right now, Dallas has carried the ball 85 times for 581 yards.

The 581 yards represents the most yardage gained on the ground in the NFL by 69 yards. Only 1 other team, New Orleans at 512 yards, is over 500 yards rushing. Dallas is 3 carries (at their current pace) from being over 600 yards on the season. The Saints have carried the ball 17 times more than Dallas and is still 69 yards behind.

Dallas is averaging 193.7 yards per game. If by some miracle Dallas kept up that pace they would finish with 3100 yards rushing for the season.

If Dallas only gained a measly 19 yards rushing this week against Denver they would still be averaging 150 yards per game. That would currently put them at 7th in the NFL, 1 yard per game behind Tennessee.

The 85 carries by Dallas is nowhere near the league lead of 106 carries by the Giants. If Dallas matched their current production and had 106 carries they would have 721 yards rushing. That would be 209 yards more than the next closest team.

721 yards in 3 games would equate to 240 yards per game average.

Dallas has no fumbles while carrying the ball so far this season.

Dallas is tied with 2 other teams for 2nd in the NFL with 5 rushing TDs this season. Only Jacksonville of those 4 teasm representing the top 2 in rushing TDs has fewer carries than the Cowboys. They trail by 6 carries. The other 2 teams tied with (Saints) or ahead of (Ravens) the Cowboys have 102 and 101 carries respectively.

Run the ball, and keep on running it.

I am curious to see how playing a 3-4 defense affects us.

and I am also curious to see how playing on natural grass affects us over the next two weeks.

Hopefully barber is ready to go.

Can't be that dominant until Garrett understands that we are a power running team and not some cute passing team...until then I still think we are not a power running team. Power running teams run the ball at the 1 with 2 downs too go and do not pass the ball twice in a row, maybe once, not twice. so dominant NO....successful..yes.

Find me the most dominant rushing team of all time and show me that they never passed the ball 2 times in a row.

That would be the 1948 49ERs who ran for 3663 yards on 603 attempts and 35 rushing TDs in a 14-game season. That's 261 yards per game! They also had a 6.1 yard per carry average on the season.

They also passed for 2104 yards and 30 TDs.

Now that was a HECK of an offense!

They were in the AAFC at the time and even though they went 12-2 they didn't make the playoffs (the Browns went undefeated that year and won the championship).

I think they probably did.

Now if you want the NFL-only record, it would be the 1978 Patriots who gained 3165 yards in 16 games, 197.8 yards per game. We are close to that right now but obviously would have to continue at this pace for the rest of the season.

No good. According to the other poster you can't pass 2 times in a row and be a dominant run offense.

I think that was ridiculous, but what do I know?

The strange thing about that NE team was that they didn't have a 1000+ yard runner that year. Sam "Bam" Cunningham was their leading rusher with 768 yards. Talk about RB by committee!

Grogan also ran for a quite a few yards.

In recent years (meaning the last 5 or so) I think Atlanta had the most yards rushing by any team for one season. The year Vick eclipsed 1000. 2006? Not 100% sure.

I liked Grogan. Tough guy and a good QB. He'd never survive in today's game though as he turned the ball over too often.

I'll admit to being disappointed in seeing how effective the running backs have been while looking at Tony Romo with 89 attempts and the backfield only getting 75 totes.

That just doesn't make sense.

I don't have any problem with Romo passing the ball if the defense is stacking against the run like we saw against Tampa Bay.

It's just irksome when Jason Garrett won't lean on the running game even when it is piling up crazy yardage.

What the Saints are doing on offense is crazzzzzzzy! How can you air out the ball so much and STILL have an amazing run game like that??? They will be tough to beat ALL year, and to think Dallas will have to go down there this year...

Stats are nice and all, but Felix is the Leading Rusher for Cowboys so far. With Felix being oft injured, Cowboys will not and cannot maintain that pace. Felix with his rediculous 10.1 per carry avg is rediculous.

Wish and I hope Felix can stay healthy to see if he can be that amazing on the long run. So far, he is has proven to be injury prone in NFL, no matter what his College and School history says.

Running the football is going to be critical for making it through those tough games at the end of the season and in the postseason if we're fortunate enough to get there this year.

Playing Defense + Running the Football = Championships.

just say we avg well over 6.5 yards a carry and other teams avg around 4 and 5 yards. Alot of the avg is due to Felix avg around 10 yards a carry, now take him out the equation we only avg 5 yards a carry.

Our we really that good or is Felix really that special?

To me the most impressive thing is they seemingly have eliminated the extreme inconsistencies in the run blocking. The vast majority of our run plays are "wins", meaning they are gaining 3 or more yds. You could not say that the past 4,5,6 years, where we'd have several runs of no gains or losses followed by a few plays where they broke off big chunks. Too many times our run game on 1st or 2nd downs left us in long yardage, tough to convert 3rd downs. Thats no longer the case.

Even if you subtract out the longest run by Jones, Barber and Choice, they've (the 3 RB's) still gained a total of 414 yds on 72 caries, which equals 5.8yds per carry. Thats freaking amazing.
