Just a quick thought, just how fast is he???? I understand maybe his ankle is not quite 100%, but I was just curious. That play were he was caught by the DE a yard short was a killer...In watching other backs, I just dont see that home run threat. I saw Portis go 47 yards just busting it.....What do you guys think, is he a home threat, 60, 70 yards TD's???? Last year he had a couple of 30 yarders....would help if he had soem blocking??

I think he's scared to use his natural ability because Parcells has hammered into his head that 1 or 2 yards straight ahead is better than juking and cutting and possibly getting 20 yards or negative yardage.

Free Julius Jones!

4.38 at the combine. But he is certainly slower and less quick this year- probably due to his bulking up and that ankle. Last year he tore this same Giants team up- not this year.

He's fast. Speed isn't his problem. The DE, Osi Umenyoraeareraaara is fast and had the angle.

I felt as if he should have been able to run around Umeninoria (whatever) as well.

Also, there was that one screen pass where he ended up being tackled by the two deep guys in the middle of the field. when I saw that play developing I thought JJ was going to cut to his left to juke both guys, but just ended up trying to split them and got tackled. I was wondering how much of that was due to him not feeling confident in his ankle and how much of it was "coached" out of him ...

I think the most curious thing is that Jones didn't bother to even attempt a move on Umenyiora...instead he simply ran a straight line...and the two were isolated, it wasn't as if there were other defenders around...

Makes ya wonder what the heck is going on in with Julius.

2 things,

Either he underestimated Uris speed or he cannot make a sharp cut on that ankle.

On that particular play Julius was trying to reach the first down marker. As it was, he missed it by inches.

I believe that Julius thought he could outrun the DE to the first down marker.... So he made the split second decision to try and outrun the DE to the marker vs. trying to juke him.

Well, he need some timing lessons on when to throw a stiff arm. The stiff arm attempt on that run was down right funny ....

How fast is Julius Jones? slow; not fast enough...

Julius obviously not 100%, anytime Usi caught him without him doing anything to get out of the way...

Marion Barber probably would have put his should down on Usi...

I like Julius Jones as a third string back right now...

One thing I could say Julius Jones is doing better, is catching the football... He has improved on that...That could be another piece of the puzzell to dominate to getting to the playoffs, a load of four catching backs including Julius Jones, Lousaka Polite, Marion Barber, and Tyson Thompson....

That could help alot... get us out of third-down situations...

I believe on the fake to the full back and the pitch to Julius Jones should have been to Tyson Thompson, he would've bursted through there for a first down, because of his speed...

Tyson Thompson should start...

Perhaps, but wouldnt the uh.. "juke" have had to come very early in the run? Because once he committed to the outside, he had no choice to keep on going. A stutter step would've just slowed him down and there was no cutback to the inside after that point..

Prolly more of Parcells influence where if the 1st down marker is in sight and no one is actually in front of you, you gotta get there... dont get cute.

Not to mention it's also a case where a pretty darn good defensive player simply made a darn good defensive play. If he had bit just one iota harder to the inside initially (as he was "supposed to"), we aint having this conversation.

I dunno seems to me like JJ is still recovering and scared to make jukes. Hopefully next year we get back the real JJ we all know and love.

Parcells ruined Julius just like he destroyed Curtis Martin. What an awful player Martin has turned out to be, Curtis Martin...more of parcells handiwork, he just cant coach players.

I was puzzled by Uminyora catching him but he had a great angle on him towards the sidelines. I actually look at this game a bit differently in that it looks like JJ is starting to get some life and legs back in him. It's hard to beat a division opponent twice. I've already moved on.

Julius Jones, right now, is a smaller version of Herschel Walker, without the top-end speed. Top-heavy, straight-line runner.

Hopefully the ankle injury is the reason.

I should have added he does appear to have improved his hands. He actually caught the ball very well yesterday. But he just doesn't have the "wiggle".

DE have good speed in football now. Earlier in the year I saw Justin Tuck run down LT down about 60 yds down the field.
