How good are the Giants?

I cannot remember the last time Tiki Barber did not have a good game against us.

Thankfully it's a different "us" out there with Fergy, Burnett, Ware, Canty, and Spears. If James and Shanle actually show up like they did last week and Roy comes to tackle, not kill, I have high hopes!

Ironically the marquee guys (LT, Portis, Westbrook) we can handle-- it's the bums like Jordan and Gore that we have to watch out for!

We will dominate this game. Not with offense but with defense. We will be able to have long drives being because of the "bend but don’t break" defensive scheme the Giants use. Look to see lots of short passes.

Defensively i think this D-line is very good and getting better. Manning will not have all day to pass. If we can stop the run, it will be a long day for New York.

I am not sure how good the Giants are yet.

I do know they scare me a little bit, and we better come with our "A" Game.

They also always play good against us.

This should be a good one.

What a big game. If we can win this one we have the ability to take control of this division.

GO COWBOYS! :star:

I agree.....and that's exactly how the Cowboys shoud approach this game.....we win, we control the division. Lets go win this game and prove to ourselves last week wasn't a fluke.

I think the NYGs game will be tough. We haven't faced a TE like Shockey (big, fast, athletic), a RB like Barber (quick, elusive), or a LDE like Strahan (big, strong, and fast). They will present challenges. However, I think our O matches up well against their D if Petitti gets some help with Strahan. I agree with MSW that they will hang a score on us.

I'll agree with all of that except the statement that we haven't faced an rb like barber (quick, elusive) We have seen Tomlinson Portis and Westbrook thus far in the season and our defense has done reasonably well against each back.

I hope we show up to this game like we did the last and punch them in the mouth hard early. If we can get up early we won't ahve to worry about Tiki running the ball extremely well against us like he always does.

2003

Week 2 vs. DAL - 15 att. 41 yds, 2 rec. 7 yds
Week 16 @DAL - 13 att. 47 yds, 5 rec. 55 yds

You're right though, other than those 2 games, he usually has his way with us.

Giants have a good enough offense now that they can play with anyone. If their D is playing well, they are tough to beat but their secondary being beat up is a big advantage to us.
They are a good team and will be very tough to beat. They are a team we have to beat to get to the next level. If we don't bring our best, they will win. They're a good team, make no mistake.

I think our corners can handle their receivers. I'm not as confident in us being able to handle Shockey nor in handling Tiki either as a runner or a receiver. I think they'll score 21 on us... but I think we can score at least 28 on them.
its Tiki im worried about, but you are right, we should score on them if we take care of the ball and limit turnovers

Mostly agree with you but I wouldn't be so quick to write off their WRs. Plaxico is becoming a top-tier WR and he could cause real problems, especially with Barber and Shockey keeping us honest and Manning having the hot hand at the moment. I see us pulling out a 31-28 win (God I hope I haven't cursed them!)

For what it's worth, I heard Ed Werder on 103.3 with Galloway today he thinks the Giants are overated, and that the division will come down to us and Philly. He thinks Philly will eventually win out, but thinks we definately have a chance.

How good can you consider yourself based only on beating the Cardinals, Saints, and Rams?

The NFL's #28, #30th, and #31st defenses in points allowed per game?

Not saying that the Giants don't have anything to do with that, but come on... all of those defenses suck, and that is quite established.

The one good team they played, they got dominated. A team we beat by the way.

They are as good as there record states 3-1. Therefore I would hope to see that they are treated as a 3-1 team and nothing less of that. I doubt the Giants will come into our house and treat us like a third place team in the division. I look for a good game and hopefully we will prevail.

Go cowboys :starspin

Be very wary of their opponents' defensive rankings this early in the season. Factor out what the Giants did against them and then see where they rank.

OK...

Other than the Giants' game, the Cards are giving up 23 points per game... that would rank them 22nd in the NFL this week...

Other than the Giants' game, the Saints are giving up 28 points per game... that would rank them 29th in the NFL this week...

Other than the Giants' game, the Rams are giving up 26 points per game... that would rank them 26th in the NFL this week...

Other than the Giants' game, the Chargers are giving up 22.25 points per game... that would rank them 21st in the NFL this week...

Are you impressed?? The Giants have yet to play a single team that would rank in the top 20 scoring defenses in the league, as of this week...

Now, to give you your due, it IS valid to note that their scoring stats have been inflated by the numbers the Giants put up on them, but I think I've proven pretty conclusively that part of the reason the Giants put up those numbers is those 4 teams have proven to be pretty easy to score against for the rest of the league...

Don't kid yourself, the Giants have a LOT to do with those defensive rankings.

Actually, I've just posted some numbers that prove that's not true... even if you factor out the numbers the Giants put up, none of the 4 teams the Giants have played to date currently rank in the top 20 in scoring defense...

I live about 90 miles from Ole Miss, and saw Eli play alot in college. He is no Payton that is for sure. He as a big league arm and given time he can be effective. His problem has been and continues to be, he don't handle pressure up the middle very well. We need a strong push up the gut, get in his face and he will eat the ball or throw bad passes. In college, he threw bad passes, i think they have been working with him to eat it more in NY. He is not a QB that will scramble, he is about as mobile as Bledsoe. So I think we should bring the pressure up the middle with Ware crashing in from the Outside. We get good pressure on him, look for 2-3 int in this game. Look for the gaints to lay back and play a lot of zone coverages , while stacking the box to stop the run. The good news is, drew will have a field day Sunday. Let Tiki get his yards, this is not a team that can win by running the ball. We should concentrate on getting to Eli and forcing some bad tosses and I bet we get some D points this week.

I'd like to think we have a much better D but our offenses are somewhat the same. We have a vet qb at the helm so I'm hoping we can take advantage of the rookie and win this one...:jints:
