I keep hearing Mclay is the star and about his talent acquisition . But i am not seeing how the Taco and LVE and other FA acquisitions have benefited this team . The defense cannot get worse than it is .
How good is Mclain if he is making the decisions ?

I think Mclay is pretty good at finding the skill set you are looking for in the draft. The problem comes in when you have missed the mark on what type of athlete you need to make your scheme successful. Also, I think his strength is in finding the traits, it's not necessarily gaging the qualities that don't show up in a combine or a psych eval.

I think he's overrated by some, but the structure is not well known on how how this circus is run.

Obviously, the Jones value him a lot and he likes to be here so I assume he likes the payday/size of the voice he has here.

He was the main drive behind LVE. He also took the blame for Taco, and there were those tweets post draft that scouts wanted Watt-coaches wanted Taco.

Obviously in past drafts we have seen Rod, for example, get control of certain picks and they didn't pan out. Is that McClays fault if Rod is saying Hill is the guy and the Jones back him?

Also, SJ is cheap in FA and does that cause McClay to try to find these low risk low reward guys that usually don't pan out?

yes agree. The one that stands out is the Taco pick over Watt. I mean even some Michigan fans were puzzled the cowboys picked him .
As you said. When the pay is good and you are treated like family it is hard to leave or get blamed much at the most expensive franchise in sports.

Water is too muddy to tell, but as a group they at the bottom of the league, right now.

He's good but he's not Nostradamus. He can't see all.

Even the great Gil Brandt made some bonehead moves such as drafting Rod Hill, Danny Noonan, Larry Bethea, Kevin Brooks, Howard Richards...

He is not making decisions, he will make recommendations and he will set up the draft boards and FA evaluations but there is only one guy that makes the final call and we saw that on the McGovern pick. The room seemed to want to take the trade and for sure his son but Booger stayed with the board and ended the discussion immediately. McClay didn't even speak up.

He better be Jimmy Johnson talent evaluation good. Because he must find all the players bagging groceries, 7-11s, liquor stores, under rocks. And pay them min wage and hope they work out.

Hard to say. He fell on the sword about Taco saying that was who the coaches wanted. There is no single person in charge like with most teams. McClay makes recomendations based on what the coaches want and then they all talk about it untill a decision is made.

John, McClay is the guy who tells our two top personnel evaluators who the players are during the draft.

It's cool. Most teams don't have anyone in charge.

People can say what they want, but the draft board has been much better with him than without him.

No one hits 100%...and its not fully his call.

Considering this whole disaster of a structure, where the dudes in charge haven't a clue.....im happy to have McClay around.

So many don't and won't realize this.
He's not the decision maker on this team.
