How important is QB running ability for the running game/offense?

There is a term called straw man; what this means is someone who doesn’t have a point to argue will fabricate one in order to continue an argument. No one said we were comparing Newton and Mahomes; you made that up.

The OP asked if a QB’s running ability can affect a team’s overall run game performance. Mahomes? Absolutely 100%. Newton? Absolutely 100%

Where did you come up with this “complete QB” stuff? If you want to change the subject, perhaps it’d be best done in another thread
where do you get off with trying to put Newton in the same category as the other two?

The author of that very dumb post clearly put Newton in with Jackson and Mahomes. You are unable to process the truth.

and if you want real honest discourse, admit that trying to leave out critical parts of a player due to need to win an argument is fundamentally FLAWED

What are you talking about? Do you believe Cam Newton doesn’t deserve to be called a football player because Patrick Mahomes is a football player? Leave out critical parts of what? This thread has nothing to do with what you’re talking about. Where are you going with this?

Mobility is and always has been preferred in a QB. However, passing ability comes first.

But the team’s running game was strong in most of the seasons he was the QB; there was a clear correlation
Abosolutely. For one year.

Sorry, you guys strayed off topic and I didn't notice.

Cam was soon exposed as a poor passer, and once his one dimensional nature was exposed, he was no longer effective.

Remember this one?

Cam: If you don't like my dancing, then stop me.

Later in the season: Cam: Hey, you guys hitting me isn't fair, I'm going to talk to Goodell!!!!!

He only made the SB the one year, but the team’s running offense was dominant for many years. How did a QB who is notably inferior in the passing game make as many SBs as Matt Ryan, Jared Goff? To the OP’s point, it is a bit of a shortcut. Running QB in the right offense can be incredibly effective, even enough to beat great passing teams

Bottom line . I want a QB in 2025 who can extend plays escape pressure and find receivers who are scrambling to get open . Drop back sit back I don’t want .

anyone comparing Cam Newton to Mahomes has no cred at all

this is such revisionist BS about Newton it is unbelievable
a QB that was a one trick pony compared to Mahomes
A QB that a career qb rating of 85 never reached over 100 in any season
and a passing completion percentage of less than 60%

Rex Grossman made it to the SB one year so your hyping that should be put into perspective

Yes, he had limitations as a passer, Which made him making the Super Bowl that much more poignant.

Cam Newton was someone that had it ALL physically

but never had it all between the ears

You look at the greatest QBs and MOST of them were not great Athletes. Brady, Payton Manning, Marino. etc. But what they had was the mind of champions
