How is Al Groh doing at Virginia?

I see that Virginia lost again today to finish out 5-7 (4-4), although they did beat the struggling Miami team. Last year they were 7-5 (3-5), 8-4 (5-3) in 2004, and 8-5 (4-4) in 2003. To those posters in the VA area, how is his job security?

It would be nice if Dallas could add him as a defensive coach with both his relationship with BP and his knack of operating the 3-4 defense. I'm sure he could elevate our LB play to a more aggressive approach.

Just a thought. We could use a more aggressive front 7.

Everything I've read points that Groh may be canned.

I'd love to have him on our coaching staff. Surprisingly, however, you hear very little about his job being in jeopardy. You would think such an abysmal season (including two shutouts by conference teams, one of which occured today at the hands of Va tech) would create some mention of job security...but there has been little to date.

Groh's contract was extended last year through the 2010 season. If UVA were determined to fire Groh, it would eat @ $10 million becasue of stipulations in the new contract.

We wont' be seeing Groh at Valley Ranch anytime soon. IMO.

While we are on the topic of Virginia, how's Ahmad Brooks doing for Cincy?

Last year was definitely a disappointment, but Groh said we'd be rebuilding this year from the beginning. Sewell (our QB) is looking like a mini-Vince Young right now and we really weren't supposed to even finish one game from bowl eligibility. This may be because the ACC is weak this year, but it still exceeded expectations.

Some of the older Alumni have called for Groh to be fired, but the students love him and he has a great relationship with the entire university in general. So basically, he's not going anywhere for awhile, especially with the promise they showed this year, and the excitement of our developing QB. Groh is a Virginia alum and has a lot of love for the area, so he's happy where he is too.

Plus, Groh doesn't have interest in the NFL. He left the Jets after 1 season and turned down other coaching offers to coach college, so I would give it a 0% chance that he would leave now.

He's having a descent rookie season. He had a monster game against Tampa, but has been quiet since, and I don't think he played against the Saints last week.

Wali Lundy is probably the standout Virginia rookie right now. He's got around 400 yards rushing for Houston right now.

I'll tell you though, it feels great to have Chris Canty on our squad. I love that guy.

I don't really care that much for UVA, but the Cavs that I work with say that they think he's gonna get canned.
