Depends. I really like wine, but I get excellent wines for great prices because I know what I'm looking for and I get great reviews on wines from excellent sources. So even though I like wine, I may not want those wines.

If its a gift for a casual wine drinker that is not picky then might be a good value gift.


So, probably be ok for someone that drinks wine but doesn't really love wine to the point where they study and select their own wines.

Be careful of some of those wine sites. Usually when it sounds to good to be true, it usually is. I drink wine and used to be a wine steward, so I know a lot about it. Those wines on the list are mass produced and are probably overstocked. They are just trying to get rid of them.

French, Spanish and Italian wines are top notch but don't let those fancy words fool you. A $69 value sounds great for 15 bottles but those on the list are not very good ones and are certainly not "premium". It says it is a $229 value, which I suspect is what the total cost would be in restaurants, they are usually marked up three times the wholesale price.

Now, it all depends on who this is for. If for someone who doesn't know much about wine but just likes to enjoy it on occasion, go for it. If this is for a serious wine drinker or wine snob, find something better, maybe 2 or 3 bottles of a better wine.

Just hope that some of them don't taste like vinegar

Go for it. Looks like they have a nice variety of reds from around the world. I think he will be happy and might learn something too. I suggest pick a variety of reds from different countries so he can have a varried experience.

I send my dad wine too at Christmas. I always use www.wine.com and have never had a problem. He likes wine but doesn't know too much about it, so I send a few good bottles with some aged beef or Maine lobster. A few good bottles is much better than 15 sub-par ones.

I found a package that your dad would love! It is a bit more expensive at $119 and only two bottles. You can always add in a decanter or a nice wine opener and make it a basket. You can even add cheese and other wine friendly foods. I don't know your budget but check this link out.

No, it is not. You could use that money to get him 3-5 bottles of some very drinkable wine that would be much better than what they are offering here. If you're specifically aiming to get dad wine for xmas, don't be afraid to go into your local wine seller or grocery and let them know who you are shopping for and what you are looking to spend. You'll likely be surprised at the lack of snobbiness and the help you'll receive. Costco also has good to very good bottles of wine for sale and all good values at their price points.
