How long does it typically take a QB to learn a playbook?

According to some fans around here it takes a RB about a year.....Since a QB has to learn everyones assignments it should take about 3 years....

Then people should lay off of Weedon...he doesn't even have two years in the system yet.:)

Pass to Dunbar Left. Pass to Dunbar Right. Pass to Dunbar Middle. Pass to Witten Middle. Handoff Left. Handoff Right.

Ehh maybe 20 minutes to get used to Fred's snap.

Just a real question for people clamoring for Cassel.

Do you truly think there is a significant difference between him and Weeden at this stage in his career?

If so, what is it and what makes you think it will make Dallas more likely to be able to win football games?

I see Weeden as a dude with an arm, not much more. I think his football i.Q. is average at best. Below average pocket awareness and zero creativity for when he gets in trouble. He does have a terrific arm, it's just a shame that it's attached to that body. Cassel, I think is more of a football player than just some dude with an arm. He's by no means great, but I just don't trust Weeden....

I know most of you guys are dismissing Moore, but I would really like to see his football intelligence on the field. Also, I forget who said it (maybe Broaddus?) but this person mentioned that the backup should ideally be similar to the starter so the gameplan wouldn't have to change too much. If you think about it Moore's game is probably a lot more similar to Tony's than Weeden or Cassel.

I don't think it's a matter of knowing the playbook.

It seems to be a matter of reading the play even before it starts.
Knowing the opponents weakness for the play called.
Then get the ball downfield and making the pass.

Not rifle a 90 MPH fastball to them.

First half good touch.
Second half - not so much.

He can throw the ball to a WR

Tell "your friend" more than one year and three games.

For Matt Cassel? Hopefully not too long, because you may have to pull the plug on Weeden if the Cowboys are still winless after facing the Giants. YMMV, but I give him until then to manufacture a win. For Seattle, you might have to make a change.

Could Weeden be the legitimate backup in New England...at ANY stage of his career? Maybe THAT is a better question to ask. Personally, I want to see how Weeden responds when his team his behind. So far he has enjoyed enormous leads. Lets see what happens when some frigging heat is applied to him.
