Just a random question... but I remember back around 1993 or 1994, when Troy Aikman was made the 11 million dollar man, it was big news.

Under two decades later, we're seeing guys get contracts upwards of 100 million - with Haynesworth getting there and Wares likely to match.

How long until we see a billion dollar deal?

Haynesworth's deal is really only a 42 million dollar deal (or somewhere around there). He will never see all that money.

Hopefully never. Could you imagine the jacked-up ticket prices to afford that? 50$ hotdogs... 80$ beer... etc.

$200 parking.

1000 millions?

it won't happen ever, and if it is even possible "football" won't remotely resemble the game we watch today, it will be that long before it happens.

humanity will go extinct before there is a billion dollar football player.

What about baseball, though?

Depends on how bad inflation gets, even at that, probably a long time, if ever.

There's only 1 Billion dollar stadium. I don't see it.

Tiger Woods is the only athlete I think could break that mark and that would be in endorsements. Maybe he already has. I honestly don't know.

You're forgetting McNabb's contract from years back. That was a $100 Million plus deal.

Can't say that we'll ever see it. Sports are cyclical. Used to be the horse racing was THE sport of America along with baseball and boxing. Now boxing isn't even in the top 8 or so sports and horse racing only gets noticed by the public 3 Saturdays out of the year.

The NFL won't stay on top forever, but it can stay in the top 3 for a long time if Kommandant Goodell keeps his eyes on the prize.

20 years ago who would have thought NASCAR would be the #4 sport in America easily replacing NHL? Is the NHL even ahead of MMA or the WNBA anymore in gross $$$ receipts?

You won't see Billion dollar players in our lifetime. That's a long, long, long stretch away from where we're at right now.

you'll never come close to billion ollar player contract in football. 100,000,000 contracts doesn't mean 100,00,000 contrcts. I think the NFL has almost reached it's max ceiling when it comes to limited revenue sources....The REAL fans of football can't afford the gear or tickets for games and are becoming more and more pushed out of the way for companies and with the new world economy, but even big companies won't be putting big money into sponsorships/naming rights for the NFL..Just look at the two new stadiums in New York, for the Mets and Yankees, they can't sell them out anymore, ticket sales are down bigtime, fans just can't afford or justify those prices for games..
