With the salary cap issues they'll have next year, what can you do?
Both OLB's are just bad. They can't tackle or contain on the edge. What an incredible bust Carter the lineman magnet is. Sims is gone next year.
Hatcher is leaving for $. DeMarcus is no DE. They may be better off trading him to a 3-4 team now to get value. Lee may be the only guy left in the front seven.
Draft DE, DT, OLB, DE, DT, Any picks left?[/quote]
That's basically what they're going to have to do. I know everyone is bummed out with this loss and is ready to blame Kiffin but the truth is that the defense needs an infusion of youth and talent. I love DeMarcus Ware for evHaerything he has given the organization but he is done and Hatcher will go somewhere else for some big coin. Dallas is extremely over the cap and will not even be able to afford middle tier free agents like Linval Joseph and Michael Bennet. Dallas is going to have to go big on the Dline and blowing all top 4 picks on the Dline would not be overkill at all.
1st round Louis Nix DT Notre Dame I didn't think Dallas would have a chance on him but if they continue to be mediocre and go 8-8 he might be there. His physicality at the nose would be great for a defense that continues to get run over.
2nd round Ego Ferguson DT LSU He has a lot of speed but would not be a liability at the run as he is 309 lbs. I like Kelsey Quarles much more, but he will not be there in the 2nd.
3rd round Taylor Hart DE Oregon A bit of a tweener but Dallas has to rethink this undersized Dlineman philosophy. This guy would stuff the run and still get to the passer. Had 8 sacks last year but has not got much playing time this year due to Oregon getting so many blow outs
4th round Chris Smith Arkansas DE Good size and speed and can get to the passer.
After adding this talent on the Dine, I would have Ben Bass drop 10 lbs and move back to strong side DE and have Hatcher keep his current weight. Nevis and Hayden would be allowed to compete for playing time. I think a draft like the one above along with the return of Bass and Crawford would make this transition go a lot faster than some think.
