This situation does highlight one of the strange practices of our GM. He hires OCs and sometimes DCs apart from the HC. I can’t think of another NFL organization where the HC does not get to hire all his own assistants. It’s just a strange and meddlesome practice that this organization seems to embrace.

Going back to Wade Phillips- Garrett was hired as OC before Phillips was hired. During Garrett’s days as HC, he was handed multiple DCs- like Rob Ryan, Monte Kiffin and Rod Marinelli…all Jerry picks. With Big Mac, Kellen Moore was “recommended” to stay on, although the public stance was it was Mac’s “choice”.

MM got to pick his entire staff. Except Moore as you said. He also kept Leon Lett, but his position was downgraded, and at first kept one of the DB coaches.
Supposedly it was Garrett that wanted to bring in Kiffin, and Kiffin wanted Rod to come with him.

Otherwise I agree, as Jerry wanted to keep any coach under contract and pretty much force them upon the HC.
However 10 years under Garrett, was a wasted 10 years, for us fans and many players.

I think Kellen Moore is going to be with Dallas for a while, just like the Clapper.

Since him and Rayne are a package deal and Rayne will be due an early 4 yr extension next year, I'll go out on a limb and say 5 years.

Doubt he ever becomes a head coach in Dallas. He couldn't beat a cover 2 last season. He's had about 10 games and an off season to figure it out. If he has any shot at moving forward his offense better click this year. To this point he is one dimensional and slow to adjust.

I would argue progress is needed because this was supposedly a ready built roster. That said this team making back to back play off appearances is progress.

I honestly don't see the difference KellMo makes for this offense.
Please don't quote offensive stats. We've had among the best offensive talent in the league over the past few years - Zeke, Amari, Pollard, Dez, offensive line, etc. A high school offensive coach should be able to stumble to a top 10 offense with that assembly of talent.
We just look too predictable and unprepared against the better teams and especially in playoff games. That's when and where you need your coaches and coordinators to be a step above your opponent's, and we just haven't been.
You pair a McVay, Shanahan or Bieniemy with this offensive talent, and we likely would have been in the Super Bowl by now, definitely the NFC Championship Game.
But we'll continue to let KellMo learn on the job, wasting time and talent until he gets it right. Sigh.

    As for what happens next?
If McCarthy doesn't get the Cowboys to the playoffs, he's gone.
That means either Payton, Quinn or Moore will be candidates for the job.
I doubt seriously Payton wants to come here because he's not going to retain Moore, and that may be a deal breaker for Jerry (you know he loves finding his next Landry).
Quinn will likely be offered the job with the same stipulation, but there will be some forces advocating Moore as the next head coach.
If either of the two stay to become the next coach, the other is leaving.
Who becomes coach? I don't know.
But this is how I see the scenario playing out.

if the cowboys win more than 10 games this coming season , it would be a great accomplishment . i dont see it with the current roster and coach. too many overpaid players and damaged goods. In the meantime the NFC east is improving especially Philadelphia . plus , we have better QBs coming to play dallas at home (Tom brady and Joe Borrow ) and we have seen our defense and dak fold easily against them .

Calling running plays up the middle of a dominating DL, after they've already stuffed our RBs repeatedly, time and again!

Not taking advantage of one-on-one coverage the 49ers were giving during the playoff game. As Troy Aikman said, he and Michael Irvin would have feasted off the coverage San Francisco was giving. Either Moore was unsure of his quarterback or unsure of his receivers. Either way, it's a major blunder. That's what practice is for. You coach your team up to take advantage of what the defense is doing.

Too many curl and hook routes.

We're just too dang predictable. Always have been.

They dumped 2 overpaid players in Collins who had become unreliable the past 2 seasons, and Cooper that was not living up to his production. They avoided over paying another player in Gregory.
They replaced all of them in the draft and their own FA's, plus a few other FA's.

So Dak plays defense and folded? We was a missed FG away from beating Brady in his house last year, but somehow that it Dak's fault? The defense folded, well, yeah they should have made a few more stops, but that is Dak folding? And we get Brady here this time with a much improved defense and Micah having a full years experience and will get to Brady several times or more. Last years game was the 1st game he played in 2 years. Brady will be shaking in his old man cleats. Burrow is a different story though. That will be interesting if they improved their porous OL.

NFCE improving on Dallas...just how did they do that? Is anyone scared that Wentz will propel Washington past us. NYG, hah....Eagles, oh the annual Eagles wins the off season SB crap. On paper everyone as usual think they always do better than us. But did they? I don't think Dallas or Philly overall gained on each other nor became weaker. But it is the in thing on here for the past 5 or 6 years to claim that.

The advantage that Dallas has over Philly, is Dak is better than Hurts by a mile. Unless Hurts suddenly improves with light speed this year.

so many inaccuracies in your reply .
Cowboys unloaded some players but what about the major elephants you selectively forgot ? Zeke , Dak , Dlaw . all are major burdens on the cap . PFF has not rated any of them as even the top 3 player on the cowbosy roster !!! not even dak.

Dak has missed way too many makeable throws as crucual times and games. his stats gloss over that fact. in crunch time he folds . The defense also had issues but the defense has improvd under quinn. Dak has not .
Philadelphia has improved and you will see that next seaon . NYG and Wash cannot get worse than last year LOL.
Dak has not proved he is better than hurts. why do you say by a mile ?? Will see next season.

    Eagles fan aren't you...

Those players are not a burden on the cap. How can they have $23 million in cap space then?
Who cares what PFF rankings are. They mean crap. Just someones opinion on some formula they wrote. I can do that and come up with a list as well. But it doesn't mean crap either.

All QB's miss those throws, but yet Dak is in the top 10 easily, and been shown top 5 in accuracy as to completion %. Dak has proved better than Hurts. Where do you get he hasn't, that is insane to think that way.
Dak has a lot of 4th quarter come back wins, but he folds? 10 4th quarter comebacks, 17 game winning drives.

Jalen hurts, in his limited time...2...
oh and Hurts is 9-10 as a starter...not even .500 so is that saying he is a loser...yes it is...

    My reply was very accurate.

Yes the Eagles improved, but not more so than Dallas. As I said, they are about even in that area. Dallas fans do not want to admit to that. It is ok to admit it, no one will think you are a homer. Oh, wait, on this place they do. Need to hate on the team to be part of the "in" crowd.

KM is just another JAG. The NFL stands for Not For Long! If you don't produce, Jerry seems to tire quickly these days.
