Noah Brown isn't helping his chances, missing time during OTA's and now starting training camp on PUP.

Now that Allen Hurns is off the team, how many WRs will we keep on the 53 roster ?
who benefits the most from Hurns departure ?

Me, I'm predicting SIX wide outs and the final WR unit to be like this :

WR (6)

1 cooper
2 gallup
3 cobb
4 wilson
5 JV Johnson
6 Austin

Devin Smith was a high 2nd round pick. I'd put him above Johnson.

And I wouldn't count on Wilson making it, though Hurns leaving is in his favor as a big possession target.

Austin is a great complement to Zeke in a multiple run threat offense. The best we currently have. As between Austin, Pollard, Olawale, and Cobb I think we're heading in that direction, I'd be surprised if we let Austin go. Best punt returner on the team too.

"Eleventy-one"

Seeing your post reminded me of my father-in-law, who passed away two weeks ago.
He was a cool guy. When he'd tell a story, he would always use the fictional number eleventy-one.
That always makes me smile.
Awesome. I goit that from the old SNL "celebrity jeopardy, I think the character was portraying Keanu Reeves.

Yep. I'll take Austin in a foot race against the field.

And that TD early in the season against the Giants showed a quick-strike, downfield passing game that's been sorely lacking.

I've advocated for having more speed elements at receiver for years and I am in no hurry to chase away one of the few we have.

You want to open up a defense? Make them worry about covering the entire field. Speed does that.

And the one against Saints

from all that was reported with Wilson as far as raves from WR coaches and how he was performing and asked to line up in various places, that's all the more reason why i'd give Wilson a promising chance to make the team.
Before he was injured, he was asked to play both inside slot and outside and he was reportedly impressing
the coaches with his route running and quick learning. He was making it look comfortably easy for a rookie.

His 40 time is average, but he was supposed to have a rep for coming up with vertical catches at Boise State, .so he may be one of those field -fast guys.
and he has already has great size at 6'3.
So just like Noah Brown and Austin, Ceddy simply has to stay healthy to showcase his skills to make the team.

i've yet to see any reporting article make impressive mention of Devin Smith to this day.
that's probably why i have not seen him on notable 53 man roster projections.

i'm puzzled why Austin is in the mention of the zeke or any of the RBs ? He is actually mentioned as a good route runner as a slot guy. But he also has the dropsies
and he is not the most durable guy around. While he has the most experience as a punt returner, he also isn't the most reliable as he has issues with
ball security and decision making, that's why we often saw Beasley handled the inside 10 yard line punts, instead of Austin.

But there is no question that Austin is one of the most electrifying returners in the entire NFL.

I think Wilson has a good chance but is not a lock at this point. He's fighting for the last spot. A 6th round pick who accrued a season injured. Maybe a guy they're willing to risk making it to the PS.

Having Hurns leave helps, because he was the closest comp. but clearly they're looking for speed and more speed, and that's not Wilson's game.

Gallup, Cooper, Cobb, Austin.

Smith, Wilson, Brown, Johnson are fighting for two spots at most, and I'd say in that order.

We'll bring back the guys we cut and clear waivers.

Maybe Smith stinks, but he at least had a great pedigree in college.

I haven't seen any positive reports on Smith either. Or really any reports of any kind.

Austin was actually tremendously productive per touch both running and receiving. Linehan just didn't use him much. Once of the reasons he's gone, I think. He barely used Olawale or Austin, and we brought both back, but got rid of Linehan. My guess is that Linehan wasn't on board with the plan of the rest of the coaching staff to make a lot of use of alternate runners in the run game. I don't think we brought back Olawale and Austin just to cut them.

Pollard is not really a punt returner. If he was, he would have been out there yesterday.

That job is Austin's ticket to the roster.

Fans of Noah Brown amuse me. Can’t wait until that scrub is gone
I am far more interested to see the staff make him earn a role as a real receiver instead of filling the exact same role Dwayne Harris and Lucky Whitehead did, which is enter the game in run situations and throw his body into the line of scrimmage
