Like the Edoga signing as a guard, not as a tackle....
This is what I was thinking, initially. But apparently, the Cowboys knew/know something I didn't. So we'll see. I'm very surprised to see him playing at LT. But still hopeful.

I had a pretty decent hunch Chuma Edoga would be a good player for us. But I had no idea he would end up playing left tackle. I figured he'd be on the right side at either tackle or guard.

So, I'm a bit surprised to see him manning the left side. That said, one thing I've known about Edoga since watching him play against DLaw is that he's a very smart, technically sound player. He's not the most athletic, like say Tyron Smith or Tyler Smith. But he's athletic enough, and what he lacks, he make up with clever play and technique.

I wasn't completely sold that he could play left tackle for the duration, although the idea is growing on me, contingent on how we do against the 9ers. Dak is going to need time. And anyway, I've always argued Tyler Smith should play LG. He just projects so well that, if you can find a tackle, you're just better with Tyler at LG, especially against a team like the 9ers. So, I think we may get our money's worth with Edoga, and holding 'em on that trade only to pick him up down the line.

I think we'll run the ball, but this is a game where I know the 9ers will be looking for the run, so you have to come out passing, and then pass some more. Then run. But I think Edoga can help us and perhaps even become a pleasant surprise, like Bland has been so far. I'm about 65 percent confident in Edoga, based on what I've seen so far. I just want to see him hold up the left side against the 9ers. If he can do that, I'll be even more sold on the player. He's really growing on me. Excellent culture guy too.

PFF has Chuma graded as a below-average starter, which is good for a backup and great for the price.

Gotta give it to management that they certainly got value for the pennies they spent on backup oline.

And PFF has Tyler as the #1 G in the league.

Remember all the complaining and crying about the backup oline and the kicker. We were told that the front office did absolutely nothing.

They *spent* absolutely nothing.

They got a lotta value for that nothing.

the only game where he looked really bad was against Az. But I think you gotta give that a pass. You get your swing tackle out there and you usually slide help. But we had two rookie UDFA OL playing then -- you have to prioritize helping them. It would be nice if you could leave your swing on an island ... but he'd be a starter if that were the case. We were just too injured up front for that performance to matter.

I agree.

Looking forward to seeing how he handles that spot this game. I really like him, though, in general, after hearing some of his interviews. Smart guy.

How much faith do I have in Chuma Edoga? About as much as I have in chimichanga.

Edoga has proven to be a solid backup swing tackle/guard. One of our most valuable players.

Not yet. In his 4 years in the NFL, he's been unable to stay healthy. Everyone knew he could play, but can he suddenly stay on the field?

Hopefully he won’t have to play starters snaps for the rest of the season. I forgot that he has gotten hurt in every game he started this season.

One thing for sure, Chuma apparently has been much more a key addition and productive help than what
was much expected from OL draftee Josh Ball and Matt Waletsko.

I did not think Chuma would survive at LT vs NE Pats. ..especially if he was matched up vs Matt Judon.
That was following a dreadful outing vs Arizona.

I prefer not to keep trying him at LT, cuz of his limitations, but the coaches are gonna trust the vet
over an inexperienced rookie like Asim Richards.

It apparently most be something brewing with keeping Tyler Smth at LG, ..maybe it has to do
with Tyler's recovering hamstring injury (more strain on it outside OT)
..maybe it has to do with sustaining continuity and not having to keep flip-flopping Tyler back and forth
from OG to OT.

While it wasn't looking good for Chuma in camp, he actually has performed admirably as a serviceable cog
in place of injury to both Tyler and Tyron, considering his limitations- he does not have the sheer brute power
and athleticism of a Tyler (who is a wonder at getting the second block at 2nd level of defenders) that shows up
both vs run and vs pass, but Chuma's overall play has allowed us to sustain in the OL, despite the big injuries in the OL.
