Huge!
It does not have to be dominant. But you can not have Romo throwing the ball 50-60 times in games and expect to win regularly. It's too lopsided and way too predictable.
He's good, but he is not Rodgers or Brady.
Plus, of course, it will greatly help in the redzone.

Agree. I think if Murray posted a respectable ypg next year you see Romo ints drop.

It all still starts at the oline.

Sturm has done some breakdowns where he looks at performance by Romo by pass attempts. There is a pretty significant dropoff even if I don't remember the number. I want to say it's around 30.

Anyway, a running game where you can get a good YPC and more importantly first downs, takes the load off of Romo. He is a better QB when he doesn't have to throw the ball 40+ times.

Then of course is all of the tactical stuff. It opens up play action, brings a safety down etc. It also helps you score in the end zone and close out games. The opponent cannot come back in the fourth quarter when you are getting 4 YPC over 8 minute drives to end the game. The Saints game last year and the Patriots game the year before show how the lack of one hurts.

No, matter if you had Jim brown and Walter Payton behind this line, if it blocks with the efficiency it has shown over the last couple of years, the results would be similar.

No hole no stellar YPC.

This game is still won by the trenches.

Romo's continued health will still be influenced by the trenches.

Everything else is nail polish on a pig.

We can talk running game, or lack there of all we want. But until the man in charge actually commits to it I will never believe it.

He talks like he wants to run the ball, but he loves to pass more. I'm hoping Cally is given the reigns and can help with that.

Considering the fact that Jerry said he wants the team to let Tony loose (forget the exact quote) I doubt we are gonna see much more of a run game if that has any validity.

I guarantee we miss the playoffs next year if we don't become more balanced. That's the exact formula that has kept us below .500 since 09.

Agree.
Over the last couple of years 1st down always seemed to be one of our offensive nemisis due to the lack of production in our run game and/or procedure penalties leaving Romo with 2nd/3rd and long forcing obvious passing downs. If our Oline can get some continuity and we maintain a healthy stable of RB's this year. Romo will definitely flourish.

Romo's 648 attempts last year were the 10th most in a season in the entire history of the NFL. He had not one, but TWO games with 62 attempts... he's only the second person in NFL history to have two 62 attempt games in his career, much less the same season.

Romo hater, Romo lover, Romo whatever, I think they can all agree that the number needs to be significantly reduced. It's crazy.

Think Murray becoming a better receiver and blocker out of the backfield would help Romo too.

his attempts were high because we played behind all the time.

Not sure if this has been posted but its pretty telling.

Colombo Thinks Warmack Should Be Cowboys’ First Pick

“I want Chance Warmack out of Alabama,” Colombo said Tuesday on 105.3 FM The Fan. “I think he’s big, he’s tough, he’s nasty. I enjoyed watching that Alabama line all year.”

A handful of Alabama offensive linemen will get drafted later this month, including D.J. Fluker and Barrett Jones. But Warmack stands above the rest to Colombo, who said the Cowboys’ current offensive line hasn’t demonstrated the same attitude of years past.

“He’s the guy,” Colombo said. “I’d do anything to get that guy on the Cowboys.”

Our line is soft no two ways about it. Improve it, and everything else will flourish.

Completely agree. A big nasty has been missing and the league knows the cowboys are all finesse. Romo's big plays would significantly increase.

Also, a better defense would give him more opportunities...
