Completely agree. A big nasty has been missing and the league knows the cowboys are all finesse. Romo's big plays would significantly increase.

Also, a better defense would give him more opportunities...

Yes it would. A run game would give the D more time on the bench allowing them to become better.

That's a great read, btw. Thanks for posting it.

You're welcome. It's going to be interesting to see if the JJ and the team are willing to put the hopes of the team in the same starting OL or not. I'm afraid they'll give them another season to show improvement. If they don't it's another wasted season. I would bring in as much competition as possible and push them to step up or step off. Romo , Witten, and Ware don't have time for that.

Just need for Felix to get about 12-15 touches per game, Murray about 18-22, and Romo about 30 attempts.

A successful running game would be beneficial to Tony. The less he has to do the better for this team.

Jerry mentioned how he will not pay Tony to be a bus driver. Well, why not? Tony does not need to be throwing more than 35 passes. Manage the game, LIMIT THE TURNOVERS.

Privately, JG is apparently telling local media that upgrading the OL is offseason priority one this offseason. I think it's a safe bet we add at least two players to that position group.

I prefer Cooper in the first if we go that route, but Colombo's argument that Warmack brings attitude even more than his specific physical makeup is actually an interesting point, I think. We could use a nasty guy in that lineup someplace to raise the bar for everybody.

Sturm has done some breakdowns where he looks at performance by Romo by pass attempts. There is a pretty significant dropoff even if I don't remember the number. I want to say it's around 30.

Anyway, a running game where you can get a good YPC and more importantly first downs, takes the load off of Romo. He is a better QB when he doesn't have to throw the ball 40+ times.

Then of course is all of the tactical stuff. It opens up play action, brings a safety down etc. It also helps you score in the end zone and close out games. The opponent cannot come back in the fourth quarter when you are getting 4 YPC over 8 minute drives to end the game. The Saints game last year and the Patriots game the year before show how the lack of one hurts.

This is where I think it really helps. Fresh sets of downs.

Dallas was top 5 in passing 1st downs (70%, I believe) and like 25th in rushing first downs.

They were dead last in rushing yards on 1st and 10. Dead last in rushing plays over 10 yards.

They simply could not run the ball ever.

I'm pretty sure no team relied on their passing game as much as Dallas. As a percentage of total offense, I think Dallas was #1 in the passing department.

If Dallas could run the ball, he wouldn't have to pass nearly as much out of completely necessity and I think he wouldn't have to press nearly as much.

Huh? Did I miss the part where they resigned Felix?

I think any time a QB has to throw every game more than say 40 times you are going to see problems. For some its less.

Would be interesting to see those numbers on Brady and Peyton Manning- at what number does things start to fall apart.

Wow. This is about as close as CZ gets to reaching a consensus on something. I guess it's safe to say our running game sucks.

It will help big time. After reading comment by Columbo and the pressure that is put on the tackles because we have to pass so often can be alived by a good running game. When you stop and think of the outstanding pass rusher around the league if they know you can't run it really allows them to just pin their ears back and get after the QB.

It may be a passing league but if you can't run defense is going to abuse your QB

It would be a big help. No QB can win when they're throwing that much in a game. A decent running game is crucial.
