How often have Cowboys done exactly what you wanted in FA/draft

I'm usually disappointed in our draft (eg passing on Moss, S Jax) and free agency decisions (Galloway, Roy Williams) but this year the Cowboys have done EXACTLY what I wanted/ predicted, so far. Franchise Dez. Do not overpay an injury-prone RB coming off a 500+ touch year in a RB-rich draft. Use the money saved by not paying Demarco to sign Hardy, a true difference maker at a difference-making position.

Now, resign McClain and draft Gurley/Gordon/Ajayi/Coleman.

McClain and Coleman will make me extremely happy. Anything after that is a bonus.

To answer your question is always hit or miss.
I wanted Murray after we didn't land Ingram in 2011. I hated our last 5 2nd round picks of Lee, Carter, Escobar, giving up 2 picks for Lawrence.
Was upset when we passed on Moss to. Never cared for Jackson though.....I never liked a 6ft+ running back. Give me the shorter guy with good build and the ability to hit the hole.

Exactly what I wanted? Never. But that's completely unrealistic to do everything you want. It'd be like going into the draft expecting them to select every player you want at that pick. It's not going to happen. You'll be lucky to get one.

You have to judge these things overall. Do you like the direction? Did they get value? Do you see a plan in place or are they winging it Chip Kelly-style?

I can't say I predicted what has happened thus far, but I am happy the Cowboys are showing patience and letting the talent come to them as opposed to overpaying for it. And I'm with you, if they could simply lock down McClain and walk away with at least one of the above 4 rb's, I would feel pretty good about this offseason, as a whole. The Cowboys could also use another corner and DT, but I trust they will address both of those positions as well in the draft.

Every now and then the Cowboys do exactly what I want. Sometimes it doesn't work out. Bobby Carp was a popular pick in here when it happened and I was stupid enough to drink the kool-aid.

For the most part they do want I want :D because I'm a fan of the team, and root for what they do, and who they bring in, FA, draft or whatever. and for the the most part, who they release or do not resign.

Am I and do I get disappointed at times, wonder what the heck...yes I do...as well as question things too, but I don't let it drive me nuts, nor do I a hate them for anything. Because what can one really do, just embrace the moves and hope for the best.

Agreed.

Dallas has done some things I've wanted in an offseason though.

They've went O-Line in the early rounds for a few years now, I've been wanting that so I'm happy with all those picks especially Smith who I definitely wanted.

I wanted Dez Bryant but I never thought we'd get him and I'm thrilled we did.

I wanted Jason Witten the year he was coming out and they got him so I was thrilled with that.

In FA they usually wind up disappointing me. Like they signed Deion Sanders and TO...two guys I absolutely could not stand and never wanted to see in a Cowboys uniform. But oh well.

They almost always do something very near to what I expect in free agency. Not always what I want them to do, but it's pretty rare that they really surprise me in terms of who they target and positions of need.

This year, for example, I knew we'd let Murray walk at that price, knew we'd have strong interest in Hardy if he lasted that first few days. I expected we'd extend Beas and let Harris walk, and knew that meant signing a ST coverage guy (and probably a return guy via the draft).

I thought we'd target FB as a CFA, but those signings make sense too.

I thought they'd bring Harris back for a year or two. But I didn't think he'd get 7 million guaranteed elsewhere.

I really thought for a while we'd keep Murray.

Harris certainly deserved a decent contract. And he can do a lot. But even if you spread his catches, returns, and tackling over three other players, they're still all guys you keep on a roster, anyway. In this case, it'll be Gack, Street, and, my bet, David Johnson as the returner in the draft. It'll take three guys to replace him, but you're really just spreading those snaps around to guys you're already having active, so it actually defers some injury risk. And it saves money.

I thought we'd keep Murray at >$5M, but was pretty sure somebody would offer him more than that.

But I agree, we liked both players and both were definite considerations at the right price.

all i ask is for them to be right more than wrong. i believe they were in the years above.

too bad we were stuck with Kiffin and the other guy at coordinators in 2013 because we make the playoffs that season and we would've had more success with the 2011 draft class.

we underachieved in 2012 and 2013.

We just need a big time defensive back to make the defense tick perfectly now.

Resign McClain and grab an RB in the draft or possibly AD if we can get him from a 3rd, and what they do after that is gravy.

Yeah baby, we did it, got the big catch Hardy and kept Dez, and can get our RB in the draft. Also Lee is coming back so that's like getting another all pro who was not with us last year.(IR).
