Never dreamed I'd be citing this guy, but Tony Casillas in rare candor stated last night in an interview that he believed, "all coaches are liars..."

That sums it up pretty well. There does appear to be little honor, integrity,or allegiance (which is ironic if you think about it) in the coaching racket. Particularly at the collegiate level.

Does anyone remember the circumstances of Casillas becoming a Cowboy? Wasn't that situation a little sketchy because he was bailing on another team or something like that. Just curious.

Did anyone watch the blank and mckay press conference yesterday?

The writers in atlanta looked like they were in a time warp.

Two of them looked like they belonged in REO Speedwagon circa 1985.

Whats up with that? did the Reo speedwagon faze just make its way to georgia??

some of you dont get it do you?

Petrino was going to leave anyway, Jones had nothing to do with petrino leaving, or wanting to leave...

David

He has no clue, as you can plainly see.

Blank shouldn't be very upset. He made a bad hire - Petrino just wasn't cut out to be an NFL coach. Blank and McKay have themselves to blame for their decision. This season is a loss, so Blank has the band-aid ripped off early. It stings a little but is for the best. Look at the upside:

1. He has a head start on finding another coach. Compare that to the Chargers who waited until well into the offseason and then had to settle for a crap staff headed by Norv.
2. He may be able to convince some of his stars (i.e. Crumpler and Hall) to stick around and not force a trade.
3. This is the biggest - he's off the hook for Petrino's absurdly large contract. If he fires Petrino he has to pay it (or come up with some sort of settlement).

Blank can be pissed that his employee wasn't honest with him, but in the end he was better off without a rotten apple.

This is ironically very similar to the Mike Vick scenario. The franchise wasn't going to win with Vick and now, despite all the bad press and angst, they can recoup money towards the cap and rid themselves of a cancer.

If I'm a Falcons fan, I worry about an owner and GM who continue to make hiring mistakes. Jerry Jones seemed to be in that same boat for much of the last decade.

It's called KARMA Mr Blank. Remember when you hired McKay before Tampa Bays season was over...or firing Dan Reeves with 3 games to play.

how is bobby leaving any different than a team firing a coach during the season?
bobby is a good college coach. in 4 years he lost 9 games, that ain't bad.
jerry is an alum and there is nothing wrong with an alum trying to help hire a coach for their old school.
some of the falcon players are just looking for a scape goat. they quit on the season a long time ago. the saints schooled their so called all pro cb like he was a high school kid.
if the falcons want to blame someone they need to look to vick. he destroyed that team.
i don't blame anyone for a taking a better job when the opportunity is there. the falcons are one of the teams who have fired their coach during the season, why is a coach leaving any different?
if you want loyalty then you have to give it

That is what I thought although I don't remember a trade. I thought he eventually got cut and Dallas got him off waivers, but that was long ago and pre-internet being a part of daily life for me. A little irony in him calling out Petrino. I don't disagree with him.

I dont remember the exact details of the deal, but it may have been a 2nd rd pick and a later pick for him

we definitely acquired him via trade

Thanks and you are right. I don't remember the details either, but for some reason remember him being very disgruntled in Atlanta. Who could blame him?

um, whatever

first off, any owner can pursue any assistant for a HC job

secondly, its HIGHLY doubtful Garrett would go there anyway, thats an awful situation and whoever goes there is going to lose for quite some time...most likely it will be a HC who wouldnt have got an opportunity otherwise

the name being bantered the most is Mike Singletary, who they reportedly liked alot last yr before hiring that putz Petrino...its also being discussed that due to Atlanta's demographics, Blank wants to hire a minority HC to appease the Vick followers (which I think is pretty lame, just hire the best coach for the job whether they are black, white, green or pink with purple dots all over)

I wouldn't want a coach that is pink with purple dots all over. That stuff is contagious.

He's a good football coach...Atlanta doesn't matter. Louisville doesn't matter. 5 years from now doesn't matter. He's got 3 years to get Arkansas to the SEC championship game. I doubt he gets "courted" anytime sooner than that unless he *really* manages to pick up Arkansas' program.

Thanks Jerry, we appreciate the help.
