How Quickly Things Change

I was just thinking about it..

Only 3 short years ago, 90-95% of the Cowboys' success was achieved by the offense. Romo was an absolute monster; Murray was the NFL's leading rusher; the offensive line - best in the league; Witten, Dez, etc. We had an offense that could compete with anybody.

The defense, on the other hand... Not so much. We just prayed and crossed our fingers for a stop every once in a while.

Fast forward to today. The dichotomy of this team's reason for optimism/success is absolutely amazing.

In 2018, the offense is questionable, at best. Dak, please. The offensive line, has it regressed? Zeke is still a beast. The WR/TEs? Lord, help us. We just pray and cross our fingers that we can get a first down to flip field position.

On the other hand, though, we have our defense. It's promising. It's fast. It's young and aggressive. And if Gregory and Irving can keep it together, the DLine could wreak some havoc.

what did the NFL have to do with this? we did this on our own. THe NFL doesnt tell us how not to make TD;s, we do that on our own.

I think the point is that the window for success in the NFL is so short. Dallas had elite pieces on the offensive side of the ball just a few short years ago and many of those are retired or sitting at home without a team (Dez, Bailey, Witten, Romo, Murray). Now that we’ve addressed the defensive side of the ball the offense isn’t elite anymore. So it’s not that the NFL has directly prevented us from succeeding, it’s just that getting the timing right in order to be good on both sides of the ball and make deep playoff runs is so difficult.

if we were winning, we wouldnt have that problem. Witten was getting to old and couldnt keep helping this team. Romos body was done. Dez was done by the team, and Bailey was done for money. All bad moves, all have nothing to do with the NFL. Good players want ot go to good teams and will sacrifice for wining. we have a loser culture that we breed.

Correct. That's the point I was trying to make.

I always shake my head when people say we can afford to build things up slowly since Dak and Zeke are on rookie deals. If anything, NOW is the time to go all-out in an attempt to win. Load up the roster and take advantage of having a cheap QB. But nope.

Just a perpetual cycle.

You can call it a culture of mediocrity but it’s not a loser culture. Since Parcells came to town the win pct is like 56%. So it’s not like these the are Browns.

Either way, my original post still stands. The window to win closes quickly unless you are NE. Some of the blame goes to the FO but some of it is the life cycle in the NFL that all teams suffer through.

Your points are well taken and not to be picky but it was 4years ago.
