(merge if necessary, didn't see this anywhere)
Lots of critics to the deal say that New Roy doesn't help the team's problems on D or establishing the run with Brad Johnson under center.
New Roy is here to free up TO and give defenses something to think about in the so-called 1-2 formation, 1 RB and 2 TEs, with 2 WRs. Witten and Bennett, New Roy and TO, with Barber in the backfield.
Seven blockers on the line of scrimmage in front of the Barbarian. NR wide right, TO in the right slot.
Can you put 8 men in the box and trust three over the top to cover TO and NR? Do you give TO a free release to run a slant? Double him and leave NR one-on-one deep?
What if Witten releases into the pattern?
So you put four DBs in zone. Now you've got 7 defenders to stop MBIII who has seven blockers. Not good.
A truly dominant offense can control the game.
Give Dallas a 10 point lead in the second quarter, having run all over the opponent's defense. Are they going to stick with the run long? Nope. One dimensional offenses are much easier to control, even with our D.
On paper, this acquisition is magnificent.
Let's see how it works in reality.
