The Dallas Cowboys hold the record for most sacks in a single game along with three other teams.

The Cowboys accomplished that feat in 1985 against poor Warren Moon and the Houston Oilers. Moon also threw 4 INT's. Randy White, "Too Tall" Jones, and John Dutton each had two sacks. The rest is distributed among 8 other players, two of the sacks were split.

That game has to give nightmares to Warren to this day.

Anyway, something to think about. Should the Cowboys defense set a new record in a single game then they are practically assured of setting a new NFL season record as well.

Doesn’t sound like a fun day at the office for Moon. 14 sacks and 4 INTs. It is impressive that this current defense hasn’t had any single games nearly that dominant but still are on pace to shatter the franchise record. Also they’re doing it with a very young defense.

Of all the historic Cowboys defenses, it was Doomsday II that dominated in sacks between the late 70's and mid 80's. This was the defensive line of DE Ed "Too Tall" Jones, DE Harvey Banks Martin, DT Randy White, and DT Jethro Pugh or DT John Dutton.

An interesting story about the D-line back then.

Ed "Too Tall" Jones decided to retire from football at the age of 28 because he wanted to pursue a professional boxing career.

The Cowboys then traded for DE John Dutton, the Colt's 1st round pick and #5 overall in 1974, the same draft where Jones went #1 overall.

Well, Jones was undefeated in 1974 as a boxer, yet he was also unimpressive. His opponents were hand picked but it was clear that Jones couldn't compete with the current heavyweights in 1974 so he decided to go play football again for the Cowboys.

In 1975 Dutton was converted to DT and Jones went back to his original position at DE.

Therefore, you had a defensive line composed of a #1 overall pick in the draft (Jones), a #5 overall pick in the draft (Dutton), a #2 overall pick in the draft (Randy White) and a perennial Pro Bowler and eventual SB co-MVP (Harvey Martin). Seven of Cowboys top ten seasons in sacks came from this group.

At the bottom you see the Cowboys building years as an expansion franchise, 1960-1963. You then see the three pitiful Campo seasons 2000-2002.

The current season is already at 15th and rising.

What would be the better franchise acclomplishement - Parsons getting 20 sacks or breaking the single season record - or Armstrong, Lawrence, and Flower joining him in getting at least 10 sacks each?

checked that game out, man Septien sucked….missed four shorter field goals that would’ve iced the game. Will say I enjoyed the commentating much more than current guys.
