Write an email or twitter to Bryan Broaddus...maybe he will tell you his story.

Or email other scouts around the league.

You might not get a response right now as they are really busy but I am sure you would get a few responses if you sent plenty out.

that would be a fun job. i assume most scouts have worked around football in some capacity. like many jobs in the nfl there are intern positions might be a starting point for someone without any experience such as coaching at some level

Couchscout wrote up a great post once describing how he made his transition to NFL scouting. Maybe search for it or look up his posting history to find it?

Either way it was a really interesting read.

I grew up with a guy that became a scout. He had an internship with the Cowboys then became a scout. He then left the Cowboys and ran some arena football leagues. Now he's back and he's Stephen Jones' right hand man.

I don't think that's exactly what he's referring to. Some go way overboard.

I have a couple of friends whom have worked as scouts. They played collegiate football and then became graduate assistances and then worked as an assistant coach on some level. Then they built up enough experience and let it be known that they were looking to be a scout and when a position opened up, they were able to get it. One of them got out of scouting because he decided he wanted to be a coach again. The other is still in scouting, but is looking to work for the front office of some NFL team.

I don't think you have to be a genius to be a good scout. You just have to understand the nuts and bolts of football, technique and really understand people.

Around this time of year, I usually post the guy I want on facebook and tag him but I doubt he listens to my opinions.

I think he deals with the salary cap and stuff now instead of player personnel.

You might find an organization that would let you work for Free for a few months as an Intern.
