I'm going to guess because he is the best QB in the NFL that has the same skill set. He's not left handed like Steve Young. He's not small and runs around like crazy like Tarkenton. He doesn't have an all time arm like Elway. Who did you have in mind?
He reminds me of Steve McNair more than a little.
I can't remember how long Rodgers was developed, but the Cowboys should shoot for that long, no longer.
Best case scenario for us is Dak does not play a minute this season.
So how do we get Dak to where Wilson is (or close to it)?
Give Dak the defense Russell Wilson has had. Seattle was able to scale back with Wilson early on allowing him to manage games because the Seahawks Legion of Boom could win games. The Cowboys wouldn't win crap with a game manager because they have to outscore opponents due to having a defense that loses games. We get leads that our D can't protect. A QB for the Cowboys has to be very productive and put TD's on the board. If Dak is forced into action this season he's going to have to make plays unless the defense is a lot better than expected. The running game will help him but if our defense continues as it's been Dak will struggle having to do what Romo has had to do his entire career.
Our defense is part of the reason we can't win games with backup QB's. The Cowboys are trying to get back to the formula that made the team successful in 2014 by running the ball and covering up for the defense. We want to take pressure off Romo so he doesn't have to have his A game every week. Russell Wilson would have never succeeded if he had to play flawlessly and put up big numbers every week. It was being supported by a great defense and having a great back that helped him develop into a solid QB.
