How to turn Dak Prescott into Russell Wilson

I can't think of a physical comparison, but Dak's overhand throwing motion reminds me of Brady.

LOL. Since were all trying to compare Dak to whoever QB is out there I'll join in the fun.

I think his throwing style is similar to Aikman's. I know people here will say its blasphemy but Dak's passes are dart but their more like finesse timing passes that hit the receivers in stride.

Good point. Hadn't thought of that

I want to do my best not to compare Dak to any other QB. Be that QB Black, White, Asian, etc. Moreover, I don't don't care about the body type, but I do understand the natural tendency (mine included) to do so.

I am hoping that Dak can take the reigns before his four years is up. The only exception would be if Romo plays at a high level and finally brings home a Lombardi trophy to be on display at the Star.

Competition at the QB position has a way of making all players better when the level of QB play is this high. Romo will always be the favorite, but if he has a Bledsoe moment (yeah I said it and I'm not backing down) he will find himself on the bench watching Dak play. I don't think that will happen, but he has to know this is the circle of life in play.

I can't tell you all how happy I am that Dak is playing well, but he is just a rookie and hasn't had that rookie moment yet. Will it happen? I hope not, but we have to see how he responds when things get tough. Just my thoughts for the moment...

Happy Football Monday!

So, Saturday's game showed us all that Dak has potential to be a starting QB in this league and successor to Romo. We have four years to mold him before his contract is up. How we coach him up will be crucial. Over the years, our QB and offensive coaches have not shown a great aptitude for developing QBs and integrating them into our system. We should take a lesson from Seattle and Russell Wilson...

In my mind, Prescott and Wilson share similar physical and mental makeup. They are great athletes, smart, natural leaders, and have strong arms. However, their passing fundamentals, especially from the pocket, needed (Wilson) and need (Prescott) work. As the link below shows, Wilson has progressed well in this area because he has learned to suppress the instinct to run or throw immediately in the face of pressure, but instead, to "hitch up" or subtley step up or slide in the pocket to buy more time for him to read the defense and for his receivers to get open. This skill (along with improving footwork to create a solid base, so that each throw is accurate) will be key in Dak's development.

So how do we get Dak to where Wilson is (or close to it)? First step is make him the #2 QB (as Jerry alluded to today), so that he gets enough reps each week. Second step is to hire a better QB coach. Apologies to Wade Wilson, but we can do better. Maybe Jerry poaches a guy like Carl Smith (Russell Wilson's QB coach in SEA since he was drafted in 2012) or hires a bright young mind who has played QB more recently in the NFL and knows the "new game" (Wade Wilson retired from the NFL in 1999). Third step is for Dak to hire an offseason QB guru (I don't think NFL coaches can work with players except for specified camps) to work with him on fundamentals all year round.

If we follow these steps (or something like them), within four years when Dak's rookie contract is up, we should know if we have our next franchise QB or not.

I think you are writing a job description for Tony Romo

Anything can happen.

Right now, he's not in Tony's class as a QB, though. And I'm a bit embarrassed after two preseason games our fans already think it's a possibility that he is.

Noone is foolish enough to say he's better than Tony right now. But his ceiling certainly seems higher due to his dual-threat ability.

He really doesn't remind me much of Wilson at all.

I hope they develope him to his fullest ability, because he could be more Like Rodgers IMO.

Thinking we have 4 years to develop him is a bit optimistic, I really don't see Romo lasting much more then 2 more

I can't remember how long Rodgers was developed, but the Cowboys should shoot for that long, no longer.

Best case scenario for us is Dak does not play a minute this season.

You're right. He looks more like Aikman the way he throws than he does Brady.

Why Russell Wilson? Because he is part black? I want him to be the next great superbowl winning QB who's game is like no one else.

I'm going to guess because he is the best QB in the NFL that has the same skill set. He's not left handed like Steve Young. He's not small and runs around like crazy like Tarkenton. He doesn't have an all time arm like Elway. Who did you have in mind?

He reminds me of Steve McNair more than a little.

How many playoff wins? How many NFC championship games? How many SB games? Super bowl wins? That's all that matters!!
This is such an ignorant stance and requires no actual thinking. In this line of thinking Warren moon and Dan Marino are lesser qbs than Brad Johnson and Trent Dilfer.
