Yea, you know when talking about Wittens replacement is not an easy topic I would think. I know it's coming, but I don't think he's done yet. I'd hate to draft a guy in the first and gave him sit behind witten another 2-3 years. Also if we did go this route let's find a guy in the 4th and not the first or 2nd, we must stay away from TE in the 2nd! Lol

It's way too early to answer a question like that. But for the sake of the thread Witten's replacement would be a disappointment unless he was a rare talent. Who's the best player though? I don't see how I could be disappointed in any of those prospects. You judge the player, not always the position.

I understand the sentiment, but we've had to make similar decisions with former stars like Aikman, Emmitt and even Ware.

Frankly, I think we can get more out of the TE position moving forward.

Here are the only things that would make me upset with our first round pick:
1. Not taking best player available, irrespective of perceived need.

That's it. There are lots of corollaries: no trading up for need (trading up for a huge talent who's falling is different), no specialty guys like kickers, punters, super-fast WRs with no hands (impossible to be BPA), etc.

Position is completely irrelevant. Well, almost: if there's a clear BPA at our pick and it's a QB or RB, trade down.

I imagine we'll be slotted somewhere between 25-32 in the 1st round this year. I think some realistic names that may be there for us are the following:

TE: O.J. Howard
WRs: JuJu Schuster-Smith, Corey Davis
CBS: Sidney Jones, Adoree Jackson

I think we need to know what players are (re)signed in FA. My preference would be re-signing both Mo and Williams and pick DE, S (assuming we lose both Church and Wilcox), and CB the first 3 rounds.

I would be lying if I said I wouldn't prefer a DE, but honestly, all those ARE needs. I think DE will be a little deeper than normal in the next draft, so I would prefer they take whichever position is the best available at our spot.
