How Was This Not A Penalty?

It's always such garbage when a new rule is made, because a Cowboys player is successful at it OR an old rule that ALWAYS gets overlooked starts getting called because a Cowboys player is successful at it, yet when others do it, it's usually ignored.

There's only been 3 rules I can think of made specifically for Dallas players.
Barber, Roy, and Emmitt.

It's only a coincidence. Also, ignore the fact Romo is repeatedly allowed to be pummeled very late with no call. There is no inherent bias in the population or the refs. There is no Cowboy jealously or hate. See Steven A smith.

Anybody else remember that night game against the Eagles, I think it was 2009, Tony threw the ball, got hit late, lied on the field for a second, the ref walks over, leans down to ask if he's OK but....no flag.

I still can't believe that happened.

The worst ever still was the late hit in the 2 minute drill by the guy from Moore. He was a good 4 yards away when the ball was 5 feet out of tony's hand. https://www.___GET_REAL_URL___/www....o-back-in-week-1-vs-giants/amp/?client=safari

We will get hit with more "taunting" penalties. I see Dez getting at least 3 for very questionable actions.
The Butler one was bs. imo

That might have been technically been a rule violation but don't like to see it called...wish it wasn't a Cowboy on the receiving end. I loved watching MB3 throw the stiff arm. The biggest BS non call of last week to me was OBJ violating the "Emmitt Smith" rule by taking his helmet off on the field. I'd love to know what Newman said to him to provoke it. :)

Im not gonna complain about one missed face mask. Green got away with more false starts than the 49ers got away with anything.

You mean like this, which looks exactly the same as to what is being shown in that video...

Also, I'm not reading "punch" in what you just posted. Now I think the rule is stupid myself, I'm just wondering where you're getting "punch" at.

I can't tell from a still what was done. That's a terrible example.

A "thrust" to "contact" is essentially a punch like strike. It is not putting the hand on them and then pushing away.

Watch Barry Church's head get shoved back. If that's not being 'controlled' by the facemask, the rule has no meaning.

Barber would shove defenders back while not grabbing the facemask. The NFL got so mad about his doing that, they vowed to begin cracking down it. He's been out of the league for 4 years now, so I guess they decided to just stop calling it?

I must be blind cause all the ones saying he didn't grab is seeing something else. That picture you post clearly shows his fingers grabbing

His fingers are curled on the outside of the facemask. If he was grabbing you wouldn't see his whole hand on the outside, his fingers would be inside the mask. You see it all of the time watching MMA, it's easy to tell when a guy is grabbing the fence and when he's pushing on it. It looks pretty clear to me that he's got his hand on the outside of the facemask and he's pushing.

1 of the best moves Marion Barber had early in his career - and Jason Witten used to do this too - was to engage approaching defenders up high by reaching out and repeatedly shoving them off up high with multiple stiff arms.

They were so effective at doing this, the NFL actually made a rule to FORCE THEM to quit doing it. It was dubbed 'The Marion Barber Rule'.

http://niketalk.com/t/76376/nfls-new-marion-barber-rule-takes-marion-barber-by-surprise

Once they were unable to fend off defenders up high with repeated shoves, defenders were able to easily move in and knock Barber & Witten's legs out from under them.

Of course, it's ALWAYS been illegal to GRAB the defender by the facemask and hold onto it. The NFL insisted Barber was grabbing facemasks and holding on, which he wasn't doing. He was just repeatedly shoving the defender back by pushing on the face mask.

Be that as it may, after being flagged alot for shoving defenders off with high stiff arms to the face mask, both Barber and Witten stopped doing it.

Which is why watching PLAYERS ON OTHER TEAMS constantly grabbing facemasks and holding on without drawing flags is so INFURIATING.

Like this example from last Sunday, for instance, from the custom game film I made of the 49ers game:

Not only did Carlos Hyde GRAB Barry Church's facemask and hold onto it, he used it to SHOVE Church forcefully to the turf. Instead of drawing a flag or a fine for this, the NFL actually made this play a HIGHLIGHT video from the game:

"Carlos Hyde Stiff Arms Barry Church"

Funny how nobody seems to remember this 'Marion Barber Rule' when it's not a Cowboy's player using the facemask, eh?

That was a little different than what Barber would do, he did somewhat of a punching motion to the face of the defender that he would repeat. The play you showed was the RB shoving the defender away. They want to remove the stiff arm but they don't want a punching motion to the face of the defender which is what drew attention to Barbers stiff arm.

I actually had the exact same thought. The way everyone gushed over that play made me assume get had repealed the rule.

And they can tell in live action if fingers are just inside the face mask with his head moving or if he is grabbing......sure thing

Watching it on tv it didn't look like a penalty, and it still doesn't, so I am guessing at least some people can tell.
