I don’t believe that Stephen is anywhere near as vindictive as the old man. He will not attempt to intimidate or threaten the media, and the criticism will increase as the drought approaches 40 years.
I’d therefore guess he will eventually hire a GM to appease the fans (which Jerry would never allow), but it won’t matter as they will not be authorized to sign top free agents, so what’s the real difference?
Still, many contending teams are wheeling and dealing to get the roster the right way…to have the personnel to run the schemes.
I really don’t know how you go for a decade and a half without signing a top end FA, especially when you’re right in the cusp of getting over the hump…..according to them anyway.
I have NO idea how you issue a public statement that says that you’re “close,” which CLEARLY implies that status quo isn’t good enough, then proceed to lose much more talent than they added.
This seems like some weirdo attempt at a half measure rebuild by someone who isn’t talented enough to build a winning roster.
Oh the point…..yeah this is how Stephen will run the team….same as you see now with possibly McClay taking the GM title.
