The best gm in the nfl explains quite simply his philosophy on the matter. While dumb and dumber are on record stating the exact opposite. One guy has his job on the line while the other two have the most valuable franchise label to hold up to. Quite simply put - this is the difference between the two franchises

Jerry literally last week. “I like being in the middle”

You can’t make this stuff up. You guys can draft, sign, trade, do whatever y’all want. Fire x coach and hire y. None of that will matter until somebody that knows what they are doing is in charge.

Jerry never said he liked being in the middle. He liked being in the hunt every year. The middle is 9-8 every year and drafting 18th. Dallas is in the 80th percentile the last 2 years but there is a big gap to get over the hump.

Selling hope, gear, luxury seating, and being televised in prime time annually are more likely in the middle than the at the bottom. Clearly the FO has different priorities than those of us that are tired of ground hogs day every year.

I had a poster on here in the last week or so, basically agreed that he wouldn't risk it all to have a SB and then a few bad seasons. I said I couldn't understand how you would rather contend for several years (playoff appearances that go nowhere) then have a SB and a couple of possibly bad seasons to follow. We've done this for 27 years and it blows my mind some people would rather be in the hunt then actually get to the SB.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion and I'll respect it. Jerry is content with these seasons because we are relevant enough to be talked about which is good for his business.

No, he really did say that

“We have been in the middle here for a few years, but I like where we are right now, more in the middle.”

Whether you agree if Dallas has been in the middle or question his intent in saying that, it was definitely his wording.

I assume he means in the middle of the playoff hunt, which still isn’t the baseline to what Veach and Roseman are shooting for

We fail every year for nearly 30 years running
It depends on what metric your prioritize? Winning football games and championships? Yea, we are failing
Having the most valuable franchise and a virtually a money minting machines? Looks like a smashing success

All of this nonsense becomes easier to understand when you realize that the Jones family cares about the brand that is the Cowboys. Winning football games is just a nice to have for this franchise.

Therein lies the key difference. You can be on a long-term plan when no one is ever going to fire you.

We have become, in NBA terms, a good treadmill team. Good enough to make the playoffs, good enough to maybe win a series (game), and that’s the ceiling teams like that can’t break through. Dallas Cowboys, Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets…we are all the same. In both leagues you can make the bold move and fail—Denver Broncos, Brooklyn Nets—or make the bold move and win—L.A. Rams, Toronto Raptors. I’d rather try and win then walk the treadmill of hope that something good happens.

Speaking of making a bold move, Luka and Kyrie together. At least one Dallas team will take a chance. I don’t think it will work, but at least the Mavs are trying, knowing that Luka needs help.
