You're welcome to ask dbair. I told him about 9 or 10 hours ago that Garrett was staying and Houck was coming on board.

Congrats on the prediction, I made the same one, I said Garrett wouldn't leave weeks ago and made the Houck prediction a day or 2 ago. I guess neither of us follow the doom and gloom crowd. How many of us are left?

guys, here is the info
For what it is worth, James Marten is 6-7, 303; Doug Free is 6-6, 306 and McQuistan is 6-6, 311. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if Hudson Houck will encourage at least these 3 OL to bulk up at least another 15 pounts during the March weight conditioning program. That will Free & Marten can add strength and power to their game; same goes for McQuistan. Maybe Kosier could get stronger at the POA if he adds maybe 10 more pounds to his frame.
This is true or close to weight of McQuistan, Doug Free and James Marten,

Now Kosier is another matter, the other guys can put on weight, but Kosier has been here 4 years now to best of my memory and he has never put on weight or increased his strenght, remember now, parcells had his players working out hard first 2 years,

I think the Cowboys will put McQuistan as LOG, they wanted to put him there in training camp but remember that Flozell and Columbo were hurt, so they coudnt, if Mcqustan can play LOG Houck is the guy to know or not, what i see the cowboys doing is drafting another young og or ot in the 3rd to 5th round, the top 3 spots our 2 # 1's and our 2nd is reserved for RB, CB and WR, that is the strenght of the draft.

now on to james marten, he had a terrible training camp, reason being he lost weight and got down to about 280, you cant play at that weight in the pros, and not surely be at that weight for Houck, so either marten gets on the ball or he is outa here or traded if we can, i am really disappointed in both of those guys anyway, not so much doug free, he showed some stuff in preseason, but marten didnt stop at all to sign autographs, and so did doug free, maybe that will change with Houck but to me, if your a dallas cowboy player u stop to sign autographs,

but we do need a young backup center and guard, hopefully houck with the help of our drafting scouts can find a big nasty guard or OT for Houck to build on, just im not awhole lot impressed with James Marten,

we might even be able to trade Kosier for something if McQuistan can play LOG, but time will tell, and yes, Houck loves big offensive linemen with big butts, adn to me, thats what we need on our offensive line, a nasty attitude to open holes and get some bread and butter running plays, to me, that was lacking, and if you saw it in the playoff game, Barber had to make alot of the holes on his own,

Kosier just finished his second season here. He is plenty big enough even though he doesnt measure up to some of the other guys on this line, his problem is going to be that he is an ufa next season.

I personally think James marten is going to be playing left guard at some point, he played there in college, started 25 games at left guard and only moved to left tackle because jeremy trueblood graduated. He has a large wingspan and was seen as a right tackle, but I think in time he is going to be our left guard and either columbo will get a big deal or mcquistan will play right tackle.

I think free should be the left tackle next year unless they find another guy in this years draft, I dont think it makes sense to give adams a contract longer than a year and why in the world would he sign that?

and marten is said to be able to put on a bunch of weight. I know from seeing him in the stadium each week he is large and is bigger than free.

How would this be trashing Jerry? Don't you think it's a good thing for the owner/GM to hire the assistants?

I don't think there's a hard and fast rule one way or the other... Jerry's hiring of Garrett turned out pretty good last year, don't you think??

Parcells never can think outside his box.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. Parcells kept Zimmer when he shouldn't have so that "outside the box" thing is invalid.

Parcells has a tried and true method of turning teams around. It involves getting as many of "his guys" around him as possible so that there's less of a "Breaking in" period which means you can concentrate on improving the roster even faster.

Think about it, if he doesn't have to evaluate his coaches, it leaves more time to evaluate the players.

It works for him, why would anyone criticize it?

:) Now we just need a special teams coach.
Bruce Read's job is safe. I agree with you because I don't like our coverage teams, but there's little to no chance he is replaced.

As things stand right now, all of the coaches will be back with the possible exceptions of Bowles and Pasqualoni. Sparano wants both to join him in Miami. He prefers Pasqualoni as his Defensive Coordinator which makes me wonder if Bowles will go. He might, but would you rather be DB Coach of a 1-15 Defense or a 13-3 one?

I expect both to make up their minds soon. I do not know yet who are being considered as possible replacements. Jerry Jones has made contract extension offers to all of the current coaches with expiring contracts.

Jerry and Wade are not asleep at the wheel.

I'm hoping that K Rogers stays, along with either Pasq or Bowles, depending on which on BP (sorry, I mean Ireland) takes.

If that's all that happens to our coaching staff, we've come out of this better than many would have thought a few weeks ago.

I forgot about Kacy Rodgers. I doubt he leaves. None of them may go. We don't know yet. I assume at least one will to be the DC. I wouldn't go unless it was to be the DC though. Why go somewhere where you aren't being promoted and going to a worse team? That doesn't make sense to me at all.

You were right about Parcells, I mean Ireland. I feel bad for Ireland. He deserves better than this.

I think the reason BP let all the coaches go so that Sparano could hire who he wanted. A factor with Houck is his age- rebuilding a team you want younger coaches who could be there 5-6 years. Houck is probably not going to coach more then another 2-3.

Houck's an Oline coach - not the son of god.

Both systems can be very effective, but I definitely think this team's talent is made for Houck's methods. Of course, that will depend on what Garrett wants to run in his offense.
