Heres a little fact that might catch a few of the die hards off guard a bit...

Houck was our OL coach for "nine years", yes thats 9!

Everone knows he was an OL coach here, but I was unaware of that tenure,, I would have guessed four or five max.

At times during Houck's tenure the Cowboys' line was one of the most dominant in the history of the game.

The 203 sacks they allowed in nine years under Houck were the fewest of any NFL team in that span.

Six offensive linemen earned 22 trips to the Pro Bowl under Houck, including Larry Allen (7), Nate Newton (5), Erik Williams (4), Ray Donaldson (2), Mark Stepnoski (2) and Mark Tuinei (2).

Future Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith earned a pair of rushing titles during Houck's tenure, and rushed for over 1,000 yards every season.

When he was with the San Diego Chargers from 2002 to 2004, Houck transformed one of the league's worst offensive lines to one of the best.

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for more than 1,300 yards in each of Houck's three seasons with the team.

With five new starters on the line in 2004, the Chargers ranked 10th in total offense and sixth in rushing. The Chargers allowed fewer than 25 sacks per season under Houck.

Last season while with the Dolphins, Houcks' influence actually helped that horrible OL as well, improving that sorry OL to 4th in the league for sacks allowed.

BP made a bad move IMO, paying Sparano that kind of coin, thats OK.... good luck to Sparano, but in the end, I think Jerrys' laughing under the cuff, because the Cowboys end up with one of the premier OL minds in the league.

Teams game planned back in the early 90s' on how to stop our running game with Emmitt, but the bottom line was always that they couldnt prevent it.

This team didnt even have a very expansive play book offensively in that era, but they were so dominant in what they did, that the amount of plays didnt matter, they would just drive it down their opponents throats, and it just couldnt be stopped.

Emmitt was a great talent,,, no doubt, and a great key in Hudsons prior tenure, but this current team has some nice pieces in place for him as well.

I see a more defined and dominant running game this season.

Hudson will bring back the road grater mentality!

I agree that Houck should improve our running game. As good as our OL was last year, they were mediocre at providing running lanes. It seemed that more often than not, our RBs were being harrassed in the backfield. I'm depending on Hudson to teach the O'linemen better technique and strategies.

I believe it was our best offseason move. I can't wait to see what he can do with the OL.

I've been saying this from day 1. HH is the best oline coach in the game and our running game and oline will be much improved this year. MB3 and FJ will actually have holes to run thru. HH is a HUGE upgrade from TS....

I think this Jerry's doing.

What were the two weak areas of the team last year? Running on offense and pass coverage on defense. What do we do - we hire the best defensive secondary coach and OL coach that have been here during Jerry's tenure. Both were very good hires and I am looking forward to improved play from both units this year.

Don't forget that Jason Garrett was here during HH's tenure so he very familiar with him. Don't remember whether HH was with the Dolphins back in 06 when Garrett was also there. I think most of us were very glad Jerry brought HH back even tho it was reported that Wade wanted KC former OL Mike Solari.

As I recall, Houck was forced out of Dallas by Parcells. Was he also forced out of Miami by Parcells?

:confused:

Both Garrett and Houck were with the Dolphins in '05 and '06.

true guys, and we have pretty well loaded up now in the draft everything except wr, and maybe at offensive linemen, we all know the weak link on our offensive line is kosier;

that being said, i think the cowboys will be drafting a defensive linemen, maybe an inside or outside linebacker if need be, and a couple of big bubble guys with big rear ends, Houck likes his offensive linemen with big rear ends.

so i say we take a big nasty offensive guard or tackle next year

i do think that doug free is one of our starting offensive tackles, probably LOT of the future, and maybe McQuistan is the starting ROT or LOG, but we do need some young backup nasty offensive linemen,

so i say thats what the cowboys will look at next year in the draft for houck

then our team will be intact for 5-7 years;

Also, why we let Houck go was that was when the couple of years before best i remember that we had the larry lacewell era and jerry jones doing the drafting and the offensive linemen they were drafting werent panning out,

best i remember it has been posted here, that houck and flozell adams didnt get along too well, so with less offensive linemen being filled in through the draft and free agency, nate newton, mark tuneii, erik williams getting older, our offensive line melted.

i think it was the combination of those things

BP let Houck go since he was talking about retiring in a year or two. BP wanted younger coaches that would be around for a while. Sparano was VERY good at teaching pass blocking= but not so good at teaching run blocking.

HH is one of the best.
Still, when he was here with Jimma, HH was like . . . old.
How old is he now?

HH will get Doug Freeto play this year... if Free is the real deal and I think he is, Free should start over Kosier day1!

It wasn't a Parcells move. We switched schemes under Coslet and Houck was an expensive casualty of the scheme change.

I'm surprised by the lack of responses. I believe based on past experience Hudson will work out OK for us.

OK = Super Bowl

I'm just wondering how long he will stay in Dallas for. I remember reading an article that said that he wanted to finish out his contract with th Dolphins, which had one year on it, and than retire.

No doubt that he will be impressive though. He has a very nice resume.

Another coach brought in that will "save us".

Until we find out why these "players" digress when it matters, I won't hold my breath.
