It wasn't a Parcells move. We switched schemes under Coslet and Houck was an expensive casualty of the scheme change.

Exactly.

Frank Verducci, we barely knew ye.

Another coach brought in that will "save us".

Until we find out why these "players" digress when it matters, I won't hold my breath.
This is one that can actually make a huge difference, especially if we finally abandon completely the zone blocking scheme that our offensive linemen are either ill-suited for or too dumb to execute perfectly. The people that wanted it here (Parcells, Sparano, and Julius Jones, who needed it here) are now completely gone. Larry Allen talked about how much he hated it, because it required him to be more passive, instead of going straight ahead and taking your man out. That's not to say there is anything wrong with that scheme - but when you've got beef like Adams, Davis, Gurode, and Colombo up front - you are better served going straight at your opposition.

I think Houck can make a big difference in our run game. What he did in San Diego and Miami was absolutely amazing when you look at it, and Typhus did a fantastic job of summarizing his effect. I think he can improve our offensive efficiency and balance by making our run game more effective. Since the perception is that we're terribly thin in our receiving corp, that can only be a good thing.

Whether that translates to playoff success is another matter. But it can't hurt.

I just hope, when it's all said and done, that we can still pass block as well as we did last year. Don't get me wrong, I know Romo's ability to create space was a big factor, but it was so nice to see our QB drop back to pass and it wasn't a foregone conclusion that he was going to get creamed. That wasn't ALL Romo and I hope that the line isn't beaten into focusing on run blocking so much that they forget how to protect Romo.
