Huge make or break year for Terrence Steele

Martin had nothing to do with the DE's and OLB's making him a turnstyle. he has had more than enough time to recover.
His lateral agility was never great which was why he was a UDFA.
Now its worse than ever.
They made a schematic change to protect Doug Free by shifting his the OL, which gave him help, think something similar needs to happen as they cannot expect different results being on an island

I think it had less to do with Martin and more to do with Steele being further removed from his ACL tear. We expect these players to recover and be back at peak form too quickly IMO. Steele struggled for about a year and a half but seemed to be settling back in down the stretch last year. Hopefully, it means we'll see a better performance from him. He's a hardworking player, so I don't doubt he'll be giving us all he can. He's never going to be a perfect pass protector, but he's been better than 9 sacks. He's credited for allowing just one sack in 13 games before his injury in 2022.
Him being such a good run blocker, they need to find creative ways to assist him in pass protection

Terrence Steele's calling card has always been is run blocking, but his pass protection has to improve or he will find himself off this roster. However, he will be given every opportunity to succeed, but he may have reached his peak potential.

Last season he gave up 9 sacks and 37 pressures. He was ranked 91st out of 138 Tackles last season in pass protection. A rating of 58. Lane Johnson for example didn't give up a single sack and had a rating 88. Steele's running blocking grade was 15th. His breakout season was pretty much the same, a top 10 run blocker and a bottom half pass protector.

You can protect a Tackle with a TE chipping or staying in to block, but that affects the entire offense, especially with a LT in his developmental stage.
It’s his last year, it’s not make or break

For some reason most on the board thinks Steele is trash ever since he was signed as an undrafted free agent. Before his injury, Steele had become arguably our best offensive linemen and was headed to a pro bowl. If we needed to run the ball the team ran behind Martin and Steele. I think Zeke and Pollard were on pace for 2,000 yards before the injury.

I don't know about our best. I think that's an exaggeration, but he definitely wasn't bad, which is why he got paid. He clearly was not the same coming off the injury, so I tend to think the injury is too blame for his struggles.

But yeah, our fans tend to deride players who get paid, especially when they decide afterward that they'll get themselves injured and struggle overcoming that injury. How dare they!

Like Steele, heard he is better as a run blocker and average in pass protection
If that's the case they will likely kick him inside. But, Dallas has so many bodies at Guard that I'm not sure it makes sense.

The OL coach and OC may be able to get the best out of Steele and Cornelius at OT. We shall see.

Remember that was Tyler’s rookie season and Tyron missed most of the season. Most would say Martin was the best but tackle is just a harder position to play than guard. Our offensive line was an absolute mess that season but Steele played his best.

He better make it a half season. If iffy, his contract is open to travel if not cut before.

I think Steele was cooked last year. people point to his improved play, but we also played some bottom feeding defenses....he has zero lateral mobility and consistently gets beat, and because of that he tends to bend too far and lose leverage even more.
He definitely has issues with lateral movement. I saw someone suggest a movie inside to G, which does make sense. His run blocking would be highlighted and his lateral movement issues in pass protection would be reduced greatly.
Problem is the money. He is far overpaid as a T and would be even more so as a G.
I know we are going with a line of Guyton/Smith/Beebe/Booker/Steele. (L to R)

I do wonder though if out T's struggle (like last year), if we wouldn't be better with Smith at LT (our best OL), Booker then at LG (where he played so well in college), Beebe at C, Steele at RG (where his run blocking can mbe maximized and his pass protection issue mitigated) and Guyton at RT (where he played in college).

Assuming Guyton and Steele struggle like last year (which is by no means guaranteed BTW), we would improve at LT (Guyton to Smith), Close at LG (Smith to Booker), same at C (Beebe), close at RG (Booker to Steele, assuming Steele's issues are mitigated by the move) and improved at RT (Steele to Guyton). Seems like we'd be much stronger at both T positions and very close at both G positions.

He also struggles against power. He is a terrific run blocker, but if he continues to struggles badly in pass protection, he will need to be replaced. Guyton lacks technique, but he has all the physical traits, where Steel is the opposite
He needs directional physical strength advantage and confined space advantage to max out strength. He is sluggish in responses.

If Steele could get his act together and be just as strong on his pass protection as on the run, I believe the rest of the OL can begin taking shape. Will have the makings of an above average line. Best we can hope for at this time.
