https://cowboyswire.usatoday.com/20...-7-ol-packages-shows-big-creativity-offers-ju
I wanted to discuss the 7 OL package that we rolled out last year and how and why it could be a huge addition to our offense if used correctly.
Now obviously we don't have those same 7 linemen this year, but IT will still work the same if the offensive brain trust puts the effort into continuing it.
The beauty of this package is that when used enough ( not just the couple throw away plays they had last year especially in the playoffs ) it can be an equal threat in the running and passing game.
Lets brainstorm to figure out the best uses of this offense and how on earth you would defend this without revamping your whole draft strategy.
5 OL on the line, 1 QB, 2 OL lined up as wingbacks - and three wildcard players to do with as you please.
Do you go with 1 RB, 2 WR. 1 RB 2 TE for a truly big package that can still pass effectively.
2 RB 1 WR.
The obvious advantage is the multiple inside and outside runs that can be configured, with pulls, traps, straight blocking and inside and outside zone blocking.
But for us the beauty of this is the coverage mismatches.
Say you go 1 RB, 2WR. They will have to use man coverage, they cant disguise anything against Dak, one guy gets doubled one gets singled and there is still and outlet swing pass.
If I were Kellen, I'd still use it sparingly until the playoffs then crank its usage to 90% and beat the other teams into submission. It was the perfect counter to the 49ers bully ball, we ran it, they were like oh ****. Then we stopped ( still pisses me off ).
I'll start the discussion on how to defend it would you use a 6/2/3 a 5/3/3 because remember the bigger you go the more back ups you are playing.
