The thing is with the extra OL, and one in the backfield as a FB. Are those 2 extra OL quicker, faster than the defenses DL and LB's. As to making the correct blocks at the key moment.
Can they get down field as fast to block as well if a running play.

It will still come down to personnel and matchups.

The 2 extra OL replaced the TE and slot WR.

If they had a starting TE that was a quality blocker, they would likely never use more than 6 OL other than some 3rd & 1 or goalline plays.

A starting TE that is a minus type blocker is a big limitation.

  • Is it?
    • Super Bowl Winning Team's Starting NT
      • 2021 season: Greg Gaines
      • 2019 season: Derrick Nnadi
      • 2018 season: Malcom Brown
I'd be willing to bet if you looked at each D of each winning SB team over the years, you'll find a very good NT, or at least one exceptional OT.

I don't dispute good teams are likely to have good DTs.

My point is that very few teams have a wow 325 plus type 0tech/1tech type DT.

Cowboys fans have been obsessed with getting a mammoth DT for the past 2 decades.

It's an odd obsession because the Cowboys have rarely had a starting DT over 320. The Super Bowl teams didn't have one. Lett was about 300 and Maryland about 305. All others that I recall on those teams were sub 300. Going to the Landry era, Randy White was 257. They finally got a mega size DT with Dontari Poe in 2020 but he failed and was cut mid season.

Marinelli went overboard with quickness over size, but most 0tech/1tech DTs are in the 315 to 320 range.
