Don't see why something like this is so ludicrous, its well known teams want to trade down in this draft, resulting in a decreasing price to trade up. Worst thing we can do is just stick and pick... we can get great value trading up.

R2A, if we just trade up for Clowney for one, I'll be here to give you mad props.

I don't think the trade up for Clowney if he drops a bit is all that ridiculously far-fetched. It'd be an awful idea in this draft, and I'd hate it, but it's the sort of thing teams do for a player like that if he falls enough. I can't see any way we'd do it and retain this year's #1, though. Certainly not for the compensation you're listing here. That'd be like giving up 2 middling 2's, a 4th, and a 6th for a top-five pick. Not going to happen.

First off, I was just having a little fun.... I'm not one those high and mighty, hide behind my keyboard and bash everyone type of person... however, respectfully, if by some miracle we drafted both Donald and Clowney, then we would have the top rated player at DT and DE along with Melton which would make a glaring weakness become a strength... if by contenders, you mean playoffs, I believe that we would be in position to win the East....an example would be Carolina last year... they drafted two top DTs and had one of the very best defenses in the league and won their division... just another viewpoint... didn't intend to offend you.

No offense taken I was just curious why I would be the one smoking something :). I think even with Donald & Clowney & Melton you have two rookies and a guy coming off ACL injury. While it would definitely be a group with a lot of potential, I would hardly think it would be a lock for the playoffs.

If you added our 1st pick in this years draft to what you are proposing, then we would be one of the teams in play to trade up and get Clowney.
But this year's 2nd, 4th, and 6th plus next years' 1st may not even be enough to get player at the 17th pick (maybe 2-3 slots higher at the very highest) in the 1st round. I can't imagine any scenario where Clowney would fall that far.

If anything, he is the type of player that someone might overpay for.

It's a good year to trade down for some teams (St Louis at #2 for example) but there are a TON of team looking to trade up for either Clowney, a QB or and elite OT. This is a good year for that as well.
Just not for Dallas. We may even trade down.

Why would we trade up in one of the deepest drafts in the last couple of years? We need to stay put and draft solid players all the way out. Donald and Clowney are not going to make us contenders.

I agree this year we need our 1&2, heck we might do a trade down.

We should trade one of our 7th round picks for JJ Watt instead.
