I live in northern Palm Beach County and that was no cat 4 hurricane.Today all I saw was a branch here and there but no downed trees,no destruction.Mind you,I was living in the Caribbean in 1979 and Hurricane David pummeled Dominican Republic. That was brutal, this one,not so much.I didn't even lose power.
So glad you had an easy go of it, PBC. I've watched the coverage nearly continuously since yesterday, which is not the same as being there, I know, but I'm in Texas. It does seem like it is not what they said it would be, but there is a lot of damage, the storm is still raging, there are well over a million people without electricity in 4 different states, and people have died. Already 5 people are reported dead in Florida, and at least 842 dead in Haiti.
I knew the death toll would be staggering in Haiti, since most of them are still living in makeshift huts and tents after the earthquake several years ago. As soon as they said the eye would miss Jamaica and hit Haiti, I just said well that's it, a lot of people are going to die. A lot more, anyway. The first person to die in Florida was a lady that was just so scared I guess last night, that she had a heart attack and the paramedics couldn't reach her in time, due to the bad weather conditions. I don't know about how the other four died, possibly drownings? It may not be as bad as they played it up to be, but it is still bad. Really bad.
Maybe all the bad in the US is just along the beaches and extreme coast? Anyway, so glad you made it out alright, and with no damage. Great to hear good stories!
