this is the absolute worst case scenario, take care Flroidians.

I do not wish or want any harm or destruction of any kind on anyone but .. that image is entrancing to watch ..

Boarded up three houses today after a half day of work.
Mine, neighbors and parents. Hands are about numb

It's predicted to hit just north of me. So, I've done all I can. Gusts are predicted to be under 170, so hoping for no major damage.

**** this storm. Going to bend us over on a cat 4 level and then tap us one more time?

Hope you and your friends and family stay safe during the storm and hope you do not suffer any real damage!

If it goes back out to sea and swings around again, doesn't it possibly pick up more energy from warm waters in that area?

It can strengthen again but it won't get back up to a cat 4. Water temps a bit cooler, different air currents and not enough time. I would say if it does do a circle, will be a cat 2 at best.

Take care of yourself. As we've seen here, you can replace anything but your life.

I hate these things. The damage of the ones from 2004 were horrific. We looked like a war zone. This area (middle of the state) should not be hurt too bad but you never know what those things will do. If it moves any to the NW we are in its cross hairs. So many stupid people around too. They are saying they are excited to ride it out on the beaches. They will be the first ones screaming for help when devastation hits. Complete Morons....

The models show that the storm circles and takes dead aim at just north of Miami then heads across the Gulf and slaps Mexico. Talk about a bully!!!

Yup, the distance between the hurricanes (2004-2006 to now) has made people think it won't be too bad.

Our area got a weak Cat 3 in Wilma (06) and I'm sure some are thinking it'll be like that.
I know a bunch down south in a mandatory evac, due to flooding, are staying.

Looks like I'll be getting winds around 100mph based off the local report(just now)

I live in northern Palm Beach County and that was no cat 4 hurricane.Today all I saw was a branch here and there but no downed trees,no destruction.Mind you,I was living in the Caribbean in 1979 and Hurricane David pummeled Dominican Republic. That was brutal, this one,not so much.I didn't even lose power.

It weakened quite a bit as it went North and the eye(and strong side) never went on land. Pretty fortunate so far......

So glad you had an easy go of it, PBC. I've watched the coverage nearly continuously since yesterday, which is not the same as being there, I know, but I'm in Texas. It does seem like it is not what they said it would be, but there is a lot of damage, the storm is still raging, there are well over a million people without electricity in 4 different states, and people have died. Already 5 people are reported dead in Florida, and at least 842 dead in Haiti. :(

I knew the death toll would be staggering in Haiti, since most of them are still living in makeshift huts and tents after the earthquake several years ago. As soon as they said the eye would miss Jamaica and hit Haiti, I just said well that's it, a lot of people are going to die. A lot more, anyway. The first person to die in Florida was a lady that was just so scared I guess last night, that she had a heart attack and the paramedics couldn't reach her in time, due to the bad weather conditions. I don't know about how the other four died, possibly drownings? It may not be as bad as they played it up to be, but it is still bad. Really bad. :(

Maybe all the bad in the US is just along the beaches and extreme coast? Anyway, so glad you made it out alright, and with no damage. Great to hear good stories!
