Hurns signing impact

I think its all pretty simple:

Thompson is the Butler replacement. 4th receiver with some speed.

Hurns is a replacement for TWill. I don't think Terrance will be cut, but maybe they can find a trade. If not he has a minor role in the offense.

The biggest issue to me is Beasley/Switzer. Redundant. They serve the same purpose. I think Switzer can do what Beasley does if not better. If there is a trade available for Beasley they should jump on that.
Knowing the Cowboys situation, another team probably will make a fair offer for Beasley. We will hold out for more, the offer for Beasley will be retracted and said team will just pick him up in free agency the following season. Ala Hitch and the Chiefs

Going to be interesting, especially if we draft a WR like many here think we might. We will already have to release or trade one WR currently on the roster, and it would 2 if we draft someone.

Passing on Ridley is not the same as passing on Moss but it is likely to be the same thing as passing on OBJ. He's probably even faster than OBJ and bigger.

I'm a huge fan of Ridley. I'd go after St. Brown though and spend that R1 on Smith or Evans at LB. OL is deep in this draft and you can get a starting G R3 maybe even R4.

I'd move up in a heartbeat to take Fitzpatrick. Smith and Fitzpatrick should be 1-2 for this team after the FA signings. They may be able to move up to 15-16 and get either although Smith may go higher.
Yeah that would be scary missing Moss and seeing him kicked Cowboys butt big time. I remember watching him refusing to talk to reporters.

I doubt Dez is going anywhere... The Combo of Dez and Hurns will be awesome IMO, Williams should be traded.

I actually like DJ more myself but Ridley is the highest rated by most
Washington and Miller are both good prospects too
The one thing to consider is this kid meant to compliment Dez or replace Dez because I think that’s different types of players to me
If they draft Ridley, Dez is absolutely 100% gone.

Team's beat the opponent's number one. That is Dez. The team has not yet given up on him...and yea, is a key issue.

If the team really feels it is time to move on, then force a reduced contract upon Dez and draft a stud. If not, this season, which actually is key, then move to reduce salary hit if Dez doesn't prove out, and demand change next season.

The question then is can Dez become focused when confronted short, and in doing so opens up the backside of routes. That or the box remains stopped and merely using 2nd or 3rd receivers to open things up, only go unattended to by Dak.

The Dallas offensive line, now, would have to both be the best pass protecting and run blocking unit in the entire NFL.

Dez evolving...to this fan, not likely now.

Butler is gone...I don't know about the smurfs, but Dak has to get better.

A ton of training and a ton of throws better be going on with Dez and Dak THIS off season...or friendly is a cartoon comment.

Dak is good. Dez was the problem.

Dak completion percentage 2017
Target TWill 65%
Target Butler 75%
Target Dez 62%

Beasley best career year 2016

Butler best career year 2017

TWill best years catch% 2016, 2017

When Dez was shut down as the primary, how good was Dak at 2nd target completion? His accuracy wasn't there on some plays as well...

and the lack of completions wasn't all Dez as well.

Both need a ton of work THIS off season...lots more, and together.

Hurns is a very good signing. Good player. Solid. Good value. But where does he fit and what does it mean.

Some have said that means we will not draft a receiver high. I'm not convinced of that. It certainly possible, but not nearly a certainty.

I may be in the minority, but I don't think Beasley is the odd man out. He was the guy that was double teamed last year. Switzer is probably safe as well. That's just my opinion.

So that leaves Dez, Hurns, TWill, Noah Brown and Thompson. I guess Thompson could bump Switzer or Switzer could bump Beasley but I don't see that happening.

The Hurns signing makes three Cowboys "bubble guys". I see them as Dez, TWill and Noah Brown. I don't think Hurns was brought on board to replace Brown. Brown might be cut, but we spent money on Hurns.

Hurns is going to be one of your top two guys in terms of salary. He is second only to Dez right now in terms of WR salary.

If we don't draft ANY player at WR then maybe everyone is safe. I just don't see it that way. We just upped our WR percentage of cap today and it was already bloated with Dez.

Looking at next year I see no way Dez is on this team (2019). If that is true and Hurns is not THE GUY then WR remains a high priority in this draft and I would expect one to be taken in the top 4 rounds.

I think it's still plausible that Hurns will be your no 1 receiver this year interns of salary, especially if we draft a WR. The team doesn't have to make the decision on Dez until later. I think there are a lot of variables still in play.

Dez might be a Cowboy or he may not. I think the odds are at least 50/50 that he doesn't play the full year for us in 2018. I could also see Dallas keeping Dez and trading him off to a team who has a WR out for the year in the first two or three weeks and panicks and in that way Dallas could move on from him in that manner as well.
