Hurns is a very good signing. Good player. Solid. Good value. But where does he fit and what does it mean.
Some have said that means we will not draft a receiver high. I'm not convinced of that. It certainly possible, but not nearly a certainty.
I may be in the minority, but I don't think Beasley is the odd man out. He was the guy that was double teamed last year. Switzer is probably safe as well. That's just my opinion.
So that leaves Dez, Hurns, TWill, Noah Brown and Thompson. I guess Thompson could bump Switzer or Switzer could bump Beasley but I don't see that happening.
The Hurns signing makes three Cowboys "bubble guys". I see them as Dez, TWill and Noah Brown. I don't think Hurns was brought on board to replace Brown. Brown might be cut, but we spent money on Hurns.
Hurns is going to be one of your top two guys in terms of salary. He is second only to Dez right now in terms of WR salary.
If we don't draft ANY player at WR then maybe everyone is safe. I just don't see it that way. We just upped our WR percentage of cap today and it was already bloated with Dez.
Looking at next year I see no way Dez is on this team (2019). If that is true and Hurns is not THE GUY then WR remains a high priority in this draft and I would expect one to be taken in the top 4 rounds.
I think it's still plausible that Hurns will be your no 1 receiver this year interns of salary, especially if we draft a WR. The team doesn't have to make the decision on Dez until later. I think there are a lot of variables still in play.
Dez might be a Cowboy or he may not. I think the odds are at least 50/50 that he doesn't play the full year for us in 2018. I could also see Dallas keeping Dez and trading him off to a team who has a WR out for the year in the first two or three weeks and panicks and in that way Dallas could move on from him in that manner as well.
