2019 stats:
Beasley
65 catches for 672 yards and 3TDs

Hurns
20 catches for 295 yards and 2TDs

Hurns production over the last two years has been below average, meanwhile Beasley has been consistently producing since 2014. Everyone keeps saying Hurns can play the slot. Well his numbers indicate he can't. He was very underwhelming playing outside as well.

Allen Hurns is set to have a cap hit of 6.25 million for 2019.

Beasley has a strong case for 20 million guaranteed.

Hopefully they can negotiate and get down to 16 million guaranteed with Beasley.

Beasley won’t be back unless other teams low ball him.

A slot WR is not that valuable, especially with what should be 2 good to great outside receivers and a TE group that isn’t as bad as most think.

Draft one or sign one cheap. Not into dedicating any real money to the 3rd WR position. Many higher priorities like D-Line and S. I’d even put backup RB higher on the list personally

Beasley will 20 million guarenteed from a bad team that needs to overpay players to get to the salary. He isn't worth anything close to it. Just because he was more productive than an unproductive player doesn't mean he is worth anything close to what he is asking

Decent amount of money tied up to receivers. 14 mil for Cooper, 6mil for Hurns and I would assume 6-8mil for Bease(AAV)

I feel since they are planning on bringing back Hurns, then they have a contingency plan if they can't Bease to lower his demands.
Hurns, along with Cooper can play outside and inside, which would be their base 11 package.
Add in FA and the draft, they can bring in more options if Cole finds another home.

Hurns was not running out of the slot position. I'm not sure Beasley would have posted 65 catches if he was operating from the outside spot

I think with the injury they are pretty much on the hook for Hurns this year. If it wasnt for the injury, he probably would have been cut. I dont think we have much of a choice but to keep Hurns on the roster

let beasley walk and then just use hurns in the slot or draft someone in the 4th round to work in the slot, like Mecole Hardman. there's a bunch of WRs in this draft that are suited for the slot.

Part of building a good team is letting some good players walk or trade them and draft their replacement or sign a cheap FA to fill their spot. I believe we can draft their replacement easier than signing or keeping either guy.

I need to re-read his deal. Cause if he is due a bonus for being on the roster in March, then yea, he's here just because the cap space is already eaten. But I thought he had 1.25mil prorated for 19 with a 1mil roster bonus which was spread out over the 16 game season. Didn't see a clause where his base salary would become guaranteed last I remember.

Cause, if he's healthy in July but is underwhelming, I would assume they could just cut him and only have 1.25mil in dead cap.

Austin could be an effective slot receiver for less than half the cost of either. Pats get a new slot receiver every couple years and they are unstoppable.

Your first line: “2019 stats:”

You meant 2018 stats, correct?

Also, how many targets, respectively, did Beasley and Hurns receive? And what were their respective percentages of receptions-per-targets?

The above unknowns would make a difference when gauging production-efficiency value.

Beasley had a cap hit of 4.25 Million last year. Hurns is scheduled to have a cap hit of 6.25 Million next year and will undoubtedly be cut to avoid that.

For less than that 10.5 Million you can sign a better slot WR like Golden Tate or Adam Humphries.

I could be wrong, but I believe in order to cut Hurns since he is injured the Cowboys would have to reach am injury settlement with him. Which would count against the cap

Yea, I believe now they would have to settle due to it being a football related injury. But once he's cleared in July/August I wonder if he can simply be cut and only have 1.25mil in dead cap. Or, since it's a team option for year two and they picked it up, does his base become guaranteed?

Let them both walk at this point. Sign Austin to replace Beasley.
Bring turns back if ready to go and no other team signs him.
My question is though, does it save anything by releasing him, then to resign him?

He is not as bad make him out to be. Maybe Moore can better utilize him

Good question
