Hurricane Ike... *Merge*

I'm in 77380 but I've seen crews close by and lights are on not too far from me. I'm going to hope for the best and prepare for after Monday.

Well the crews came and went Wednesday evening and I still have no lights. Guess Monday + is becoming more of a reality. Good thing the weekend is here so I don't have to live in the apartment.

That sucks but I have been there before. We had a bad storm a few years ago with hurricane force winds and we were without power for almost a week.

This is day 7 for me with no power. It does wear on you but I do believe these guys are doing the best they can to restore power. I really appreciate those workers from other states who are here to help us restore power and other needs we currently have. Thus far I have seen utility trucks from Michigan, Ohio, Florida and Alabama in our area and I would like to thank them for all they are doing.

I know those guys are busting butt to get power on but it doesn't make you feel much better when you go home to no lights and sit in the dark until you go to bed.

I agree. As I said it wearing on me as well. I try and stop and see the overall picture of what they are dealing with and the enormity of the damage I can't help but think they are doing the very best they can. Things will get better

not that it will make you guys feel any better about not having power but
the guy tailgating next to me last week worked for Oncor and he said his workers who had gone to Beaumont were putting in 100 hour weeks and sleeping in their trucks...so just know they are doing all they can...and I tip my hat to them....(now if they knew their boss was tailgating Monday night
they might revolt)

my brother in Beaumont has his power back on as of today, so progress is being made.

And I do thank them for all they are doing. I have relatives as well in the Beaumont area as well who have been affected by Ike and glad to see that area getting the needed attention as well.

My Mom & Dad both live in Beaumont but they are living with my aunt in Palestine, TX.

One of the local power plants there, Sabine in Bridge City, got a 4ft storm surge. So I'm sure that isn't helping things.

Most of my relative in the area are in China Texas and they took some damage with falling trees on their homes.

I travel through China every time I visit my folks.

I have a whole new respect for the wind power of hurricanes after this week. I'm just now getting back online after the remnants of Ike came through way up here in Dayton and almost all of Ohio. Sunday afternoon, we had anywhere between 65-84 mph wind gusts for about 5 hours. I'm not sure what the sustained winds were in the area, but they were stating that it was at the least sustained at tropical storm force winds.

I'm not saying that what happened here was anything like what happened in TX over last weekend. Normally in Ohio you'll get a hit and miss on a tornado. But nothing like the winds over that long a time period. I know that in my area alone, that it took all week to get power to my lil suburb of Dayton. I've seen the frustration of this small level of damage by comparison. I am amazed at how the folks down in TX have handled this disaster.

Glad you got power back Dayton. Estikates are that my area might not get lights until Thursday - ugh.

Guess if anything positive came from it was getting to spend more time than usual with the g/f.

Got lights back on Tuesday and they went back off last night - ugh! Still 400K in Houston without power.

Damn that sucks Duane. Are you making it ok? I was hearing something about it taking almost to November for folks power comes back on.

My job's power just got restored last night, but we have poor water pressure to run the A/C, so we still can't go back to work.

I got lucky mine came back this past Monday afternoon.

Glad to hear it, Dooms.

I got back to Houston Monday night and it was kinda eerie driving through the city cuz it was so dark in spots. They're supposed to be lifting the overnight curfew, but I don't know if they should based on how many people still have no power.

My brother lives in Seabrook and my Dad about 5 miles down the road in Bayview. Neither has power yet.

My brother house was about 3 blocks from the bay and got 4 feet of water. They are told it will have to be torn down. It is on stilts, but they had 1 bedroom, bathroom and garage on the first floor. My brother is camping on the lawn to keep looters out, until they get insurance money and/or fema comes up with a place for them to live. Wow, poor guy, this is the second time he has lost a house. In 1979 he lost his place to a tornado in Wichita Falls.

My Dad's place seems to be ok, except they still have no power.

Evidently a transformer blew but they fixed it this early afternoon... Sorry to hear about your dad and brother 62.
