Twitter: Hurts seeing a former Dallas Draft Pick perform like this

QB Jim Zorn

WR Jimmy Smith

LB Mike Walters

TE Todd Christiansen

QB Steve Deberg

G Ron Stone

G Jake Kupp (Cooper's grandfather)

DB Brigg Owens

.....just to name a few.

To be fair, you can't win them all.
Im talking about actual plaing on our team for at least a few years. Like Ware. Who else?

Who would’ve guessed based on where he was drafted and those low expectations then Dallas letting him go that Mike Jackson would beat it and become a thriller? Maybe he just took a long look at the man in the mirror decided to stop being bad?

Dallas tends to move on from CB's they don't see as elite. Some of them go on to have decent careers

Yup. Everything comes down to Jerry being horrific at talent evaluation. That's why we keep taking DT's w/ slow feet in the draft.

The subject of the thread, Mike Jacksom, never played for the Cowboys. He was waived in his first training camp and was assigned to the practice squad for a short period of time and then released.

I didn't realize that you were talking abpout players that were with Dallas for a few seasons.

It's hard to rue a 5th round pick that bounced around the league before finding a landing spot that fit him. Carolina is his 5th team since getting drafted in 2019. Here is his history.

Copied and edited from Wiki:

Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys selected Jackson in the fifth round (158th overall) of the 2019 NFL draft. He was the 17th cornerback drafted.

2019 season
On May 10, 2019, the Dallas Cowboys signed Jackson to a four–year, $2.82 million rookie contract that included a signing bonus of $303,420. Throughout training camp, he competed to be a starting cornerback against Anthony Brown, Jourdan Lewis, and Chidobe Awuzie under Cowboys' defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli. On August 31, the Cowboys waived Jackson as part of their final roster cuts. On September 2, the Cowboys re-signed him to the practice squad after he cleared waivers

Detroit Lions
On October 30, 2019, the Detroit Lions signed Jackson from the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad and added him to their active roster.

2020 season
On August 9, 2020, the Detroit Lions announced their intention to waive Jackson.

New England Patriots
On August 9, 2020, the Detroit Lions chose not to waive Jackson and instead, traded him to the New England Patriots for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft.

On September 3, the Patriots waived Jackson as part of their final roster cuts. On September 28, the Patriots re-signed him to their practice squad.

On August 31, 2021, the New England Patriots waived Jackson as part of their final roster cuts.

Seattle Seahawks
On September 2, 2021, Jackson was signed to the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad.

2022 season
On January 10, 2022, the Seattle Seahawks signed Jackson to a reserve/future contract.

Carolina Panthers
On August 22, 2024, the Seahawks traded Jackson to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for rookie linebacker Michael Barrett.

On March 12, 2025, the Carolina Panthers signed Jackson to a two–year, $10.50 million contract extension.
This means 4 teams including us, dumped him. That's a truthful factual visual. Thank you. The narrative that Dallas messed up yet again gets old. Yeah, it's cool the guy finally found a home and a staff that helped the light come on. Maybe he just needed to mature. Sometimes we see things better as we age. I'm happy for the kid. We didn't fail him. He just wasn't a fit at the time, and players evolve at a different level.

The Nashon wright situation blows my mind. Nobody saw this coming. He looked like he hit his ceiling when he was here. I guess it was another case of being a bad scheme for here. Maybe he just couldn't handle the playbook. The Bears are a much more aggressive team. Which allows the dbs to cover for less time. Too bad we gave up a year too soon on him. The great DQ scheme didn't help him much. Let's give AL Harris some credit too. Coaching matters

If Wright is so good, then why did the Bears just let him walk?

I personally think he's not very good, and is being grossly overrated at present because he had 5 picks. Scouts call him a "feast or famine" type player, which means he'll get some picks but also gets burned a lot. I think we've heard that before!!!!!

Who got him, which team is he on? I'm guessing he was gobbled up in free agency. You make a good point though. He just wasn't a good fit in Dallas.

He isn't particularly well thought of around the league. Now he is what we refer to as a journeyman playing for 4 teams in 4 years. A 3rd rounder who never panned out. Just got lucky one year only for him to get cut.

Minnesota Vikings
On August 9, 2024, Wright was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for Andrew Booth Jr. He was waived on August 27, and re-signed to the practice squad.

Wright signed a reserve/future contract with Minnesota on January 17, 2025. On April 7, Wright was released by the Vikings.

Chicago Bears
On April 8, 2025, Wright signed a one-year contract with the Chicago Bears.

New York Jets
On March 12, 2026, the New York Jets signed Wright to a one-year, $5.5 million contract

Jets.

And the Jets starting CBs appear to be entrenched, so why did he go to a bad team as a backup?

I don't think it's about the fit, I just think he wasn't very good. Kinda like when Diggs had 11 picks for us, but at the same time allowed the most yards by any CB in the NFL.

So, no, he wasn't gobbled up. Went to a team as a backup.

Fans consistently overrate DBs who have a high number of picks.
