Ok dont get panties in a bunch. Let's say the cowboys go through the rams or saints in the NFC playoffs and then beat the cheifs in the SB!?

Obviously besides the ball control offense, the defense would play a big part in that considering the number of high flying offenses within the playoffs and the cowboys inability to score as many points as those offenses.

If Dallas won the SB, how high would you guys rank this defense in NFL history considering the amount of high scoring offenses in the 2018 season?

Considering the situation I would atleast rank them a top 10 defense of all-time.

Hypothetical!

I'd rank them as a very good defense who went on a special run. Nothing more.

I think this defense can get better as LVE continues to improve weekly. As much of a head case as he is we need Irving back and pressure opposite Lawrence to beat any of those teams. Those players could make this defense special if they can stay healthy

What are you drinking? I bet it's good! So, if we win the SB, would Garrett still suck? Hmmmmmm........Yep!

Points for optimism.

But....this is nuts...good defense but no where near a great unit let alone a top 10 all time....

One of the aspects about the 92-93 defenses is they were bend don't break. If you didn't watch them when they were playing live, you miss the fact the other team would move the ball, and then the defense would hold the line at some point.

But what made those defenses great was the pressure the offenses put on other teams. Dallas scored, and usually it was a touchdown. Then they would eke out another score. Then it was the Emmitt show.

Now there would be people here that will pull out the slide rules and the Farmer's Almanac and tell you time of possession was not a part of this scheme to win. But more than a few teams watched Emmitt just break their defense into pieces as he ran, rambled and rammed the ball down their throats.

Perhaps one of the constant comments about those teams was that the Dallas line was so good, Emmitt looked better than he was. The fellow on with Stephen A made a claim that Terrell Davis from the Broncos would have posted better numbers than Emmitt if he were behind the Dallas line. He said that today. I heartily disagree

But one thing he did say is this. Emmitt wasn't the fastest or the biggest and didn't have the slick moved of Sanders, but of all the aspects that make up great running backs, he had the best combination of traits. I agree with that.

So while this is a defense thread, and making comparisons. Eventually it will get around to the 90's teams. And while those teams were terrific defensive teams. The twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth players on defense were Emmitt, Irvin, and Aikman.

I'll give them credit for playing out of their mind(s) , but they still need difference makers at defensive tackle and at safety.................

The first NFC championship in the 90s against the niners was a great example of that. SF was the Rams, Chiefs and Saints of that time. The Cowboys won that game by controlling the ball on offense...the 3rd qtr I believe SF had the ball for maybe 4 minutes. That's the blueprint just dont know if it can be done today.

Lol!!!! He hasn't built a thing. His puppet master has. Garrett doesn't even have the sack to tell Linehan what to do, much less Jerry or Stephen! Lol!!!!!

I don’t think this is a historic defense in any sense. The 85 bears, the 86 giants, and the 2000 ravens are what historic defenses look like.

No need to yell. I don't like the guy, he's an arrogant and pompous individual. He looks good on TV, you can have him. No issues, just stop yelling. Lol

'85 Da Bears...when they had Sweetness and Refrigerator Perry, and McMahon. Some players were actually afraid of their defense.
